Under the general chairmanship of Mike Scherer, '54, the Opera will deal with home brew, the hill folks of Tennessee and atomic energy. Script for the all-male musical comedy, to be presented through Friday, was written by Howard Nemerovski, '54E, and the music and lyrics by Harold (Red) Johnson, '55SM, Paul McDon- odgh, '55L, Pete Katz, '55SM, Dick Seid, '55, Gerry Strauch, 57M, and Murry Frymer, '56. "UP 'N' ATOM" centers on the attempts of two young atomic sci- entists to secure the formula of a high-powered home brew which proves to be the completing in- gredient in a significant atomic chain reaction. In their search the two scien- tists, Bob Cutting, '54NR, and John Geralt, '55M, clash head- on with Tennessee moonshiner Lem Watters, played by Andy Cooley, '56. Watters is the only person who knows the secret formula which has won him the position of pa- triarch of West Bourbon, Tennes- see. Struggle for the control of the atomic ingredient runs into complications with the entry of a well-known private detective, played by Gene Bohi, Grad., and his girl friend, acted by Russ Brown, '55. BROWN'S project is to buy, borrow or steal the precious for- mula for a nearly bankrupt New' York distillery seeking a way out of financial ruin. Along the way, romantic com- plications are added for the two scientists by hillbilly girls por- CHORUS TUNES UP for every need ...every occasion ...every taste Smartly styled and quality tailored in the newest fashions, fabrics and colors by one of the leading makers.
