Originally the Shakespeare play was filmed as an experiment, but its success brought the film to commercial theatres throughout the United States, parts of South' America and Europe where it won the Locarno Prize as the best pic- ture of 1949. Producer-director David Brad- ley worked on the minimal bud- get of $15,000, and in six months, turned out the first full-length sound motion picture version of the Shakespearian classic. The only previous production was an Italian silent version in 1914. Costumes for "Julius Caesar" were nearly all home-made. The armor was fashioned of aluminum, and headdresses were remodeled from Army helmets. For settings, Bradley used some famous Chicago landmarks, notably Soldier's Field for the Collisseum and sand dunes along Lake Michigan for the Bat- tle of Philippi- "Julius Caesar" will be shown at 7 and 9 p.m. today through Sunday in Pattengill Auditorium of the high school. 11 50e ARCHITECTURE AUDITORIUM Read and Use Daily Classifieds MARC ANTHONY (CHARLETON HESTON) AND THE MAN HE DEFENDS .mow w i " i ..r ... . .. . ____. _ _. __.. _ I z I l i l l i q i i i i i i ii i illilliq i l l i l l iq Ll lu i MICHIGAN DAILY Phone NO 23-24-1 HOURS: 1 to 5 P.M.
