WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 18, 1953 THE MICHIGAN DAILY PAGE MVE I U W"* Assembly Association To Distribute Report Parents Announce Weddings, Engagements Senior, Junior Panhellenic Announce Board Positions Presenting a factural statement of progress, Assembly Association will distribute its "Assembly Asso- ciation Progress Report" to all in- dependent women today. Assembly Association hopes the report will answer any questions women may have about the orga- nization and will give a more com- plete picture of the association, as it works with and for the inde- pendent ,women on campus. Mrs. Elsie Fuller, Assistant Dean of Women, expressed her approval of the report and em- phasized that all major projects should be followed with an an- nouncement of this sort. Given special permission to dis- tribute these bulletins, Assembly will put the report in women's mailboxes. Included under social events are I-Hop and Assembly Ball, with I- Hop having one of the largest crowds at a League dance, 656 couples. Tag Day, candy stores and holi- day projects fall under the As- sembly's work in community serv- ice. , Covering a vast area in cam- pus service and projects, Assem- bly has worked with residence hall organizations. They have helped set up the Prescott House organization, judiciary systems and meetings to coordinate the work of various hall chairmen. Assembly Board works with the League House Council and with the Assembly Dormitory Council. Responsible for the awards and honors given at Fortnite, Assembly interviews for Fortnite positions and supervises the planning of the event. It is now working with Pan- hellenic on an evaluation of fall rushing. Senior Panhellenic Association, has announced three new posi- tions; Public Relations chairman, co-chairman of Greek Week and; Parliamentarian. Marlene Jaffa, a sophomore of Sigma Delta Tau, is taking Ann Mercer's place as public relations chairman. She will represent Pan- hel on all campus organizations and arrange for exchange dinners. Co-chairman of Greek Week, to be held in May, is Beckie Ninness, a sophomore of Chi Omega. Miss Ninness will work with IFC on the event. She is also responsible for planning Panhel Tea and the pres- ident's conference at Fresh Air Camp and workshop. Helping to revise Panhel's Con- stitution, Barbara Heider, a junior of Alpha Xi Delta, fills the new of- fice of parliamentarian. Members of the Panhellenic Board will visit Central Michigan College at Mt. Pleasant in the near future, where they will attend a workshop on Panhel and hear how its activities are carried on in oth- er schools. Dean Sarah Healy will accompany the board. The Panhel Board represents all affiliated women on campus and is the governing body of the Pan- hellenic Association. It is made up of the seven senior members and one associate member in charge of public relations. Junior Panhel has announced its new officers as the following: president, Debbie Townsend; vice- president, Ginny Zinn; secretary, Heather Hutchins and treasurer, Gail Clark. Junior Panhel will hold its usual meeting today at 4 p.m. in the League. Members are re- quested to attend. At dinner in the Kappa Delta house on Nov. 5, the engagement of Diane Decker, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. M. B. Decker of Mt. Pleasant, to Russell AuWerter II, son of Mr. and Mrs. Russell Au- Werter of Huntington Woods, was announced. Miss Decker is a senior in the literary college, majoring in Eng- lish. She is an associate editor of The Daily, a member of Scroll, and on the Young Republican execu- tive board. Mr. AuWerter II is a senior in the literary college, also majoring in English. He is a transfer from Albion College. He is a member of Delta Tau Delta, and a former as- sistant night editor of The Daily. The wedding will take place on Jan. 28, 1954, and the couple plan to make their home in Ann Arbor until graduation. Stinson - Meacd The engagement of Harriet V. Stinson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Willis D. Stinson of San Marino, California, to Milton E. Mead, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph O. Mead of Bay City, was recently an- nounced. Corbett - Salmon The wedding of Bette Corbett, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. Knee- shaw of Arlington, New Jersey, and Charles Salmon, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Salmon of De- troit, was performed Sept. 12, in the First Presyterian Church in Ann Arbor. .Mrs. Salmon is a June graduate from the School of Education, and affiliated with Kappa Delta. SOPHIA FEDONIS with a bachelor's degree in civil engineering, and he is presently completing work for a master's de- gree in civil engineering. He is a member of Tau Beta Pi and Chi Epsilon. Fedonis - Gemolas Mr. and Mrs. Louis Fedonis of Pontiac have announced the en- gagement of their daughter, So- phia, to Nicholas D. Gemolas, son of Mrs. Gemolas of Detroit. Miss Fedonis is a senior in the School of Music. Mr. Gemolas attended Adrian BARBARA PAAPE College, and is now serving in the United States Marine Corps. A July wedding is planned by the couple. * * * Spencer - Paape On October 24 at the University Lutheran. Chapel in Ann Arbor, Barbara Jane Spencer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roy C. Spencer of Arlington, Massachusetts, be- came the bride of Dale Paape, son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Paape of Eau Clair, Wisconsin, in a double ring ceremony. Mrs. Spencer is a senior in the literary college, and Mr. Spencer is a senior in the College of Archi- tecture. He is also a member of Alpha Rho Chi. The couple took a wedding trip to Glen Lake in Glen Arbor, and after graduation will take up res- idence in Dearborn. S* 9 . Simon - Wolff 'The engagement of Helene Myr- na Simon, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Morris Simon of Gary, Indi- ana, to Michael Field Wolff, son of Mr. and Mrs. Sidney A. Wolff of New York City, was recently an- nounced. Miss Simon is a senior in the English Honors program. She is Associate Editor of The Daily, and a member of Senior Society. Mr. Wolff is a senior in the lit- erary college, majoring in phy- sics. He is a member of Druids, and Associate City Editor of The Daily. Miss Simon has won an Avery and Julie Hopwood award in essay, while Mr. Wolff has won a similiar award in poetry. No definite wedding date has been set by the couple. * * * Higley - Straffon On October 25 the engagement of Cary Arden Higley, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Charles S. Higley of Shaker Heights, Ohio, to Dr. Ralph Atwood Straffon, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd A. Straffon of Cros- well, was announced. Miss Higley will graduate from the School of Nursing in January and is a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma. Dr. Straffon is a graduate of the Literary College and the Medical School, and he is affiliated with Nu Sigma Nu. In 1945, 1948, 1949, he was a member of the varsity football team. At present he is an interne at University Hospital. The couple is planning a Feb- ruary wedding.
