PAGE TWO THE MICHIGAN DAILY WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 28, 1953 JOHN BROWN'S BODY: Laughton Develops Use f Choral Background SL Agenda The following items of busi- ness will be discussed when Student Legislature meets at 7:30 p.m. today in the Strauss Dining Room of East Quad- rangle: Motion on the Radulovich case NSA Congress Bid Report Student Representation Re- DAILY OFFICIAL BULLETIN The human voic4 can be made to do anything. This conviction of Charles Laughton and Walter Schumann' will be borne out by the participa-. tion of the Schumann Choral Group in Friday and Saturday night's performances of "John Brown's Body." THE CHORUS plays the role of the clash and clamor of war and acts as the voice of gently flowing waters, of the wind in the trees and of the wounded and dying. The chorus serves as a defin- ite member of the cast along with the stars of the drama, Tyrone Power, Ann Baxter and Raymond Massey. These stars will play against the choral background, creating a type of "platform theater" which has been referred to as the "new di- mension" in modern drama. EXTRA PERFORMANCE Directed by Charles Laugh- ton, "John Brown's Body," re- presents the first time that the topic poem has been put on the stage in major scale. Generally speaking, Power reads the lines setting forth romance, Miss Baxter presents the view- points of the feminine characters and Massey, reads the patriotic and political implications. Tickets for the performances may be purchased at the Hill Au- ditorium Box Office. port, SAC Report Thanksgiving Holiday Re- port Motion for Final Exam Re- ferendum All interested students and faculty members have been in- vited by SL to attend he meet- ing.
