1RIDAY, OCTOBER 16, 1953 THE MICHIGAN DAILY PAGE FIVE * Two Dances Will Provide StudyBreak League-Union To Join Forces To Promote 'Gridiron Gambols' Gridiron Gambols ..*. r Couples will dance to the famil- iar music of Paul McDonough and his orchestra at "Gridiron Gam- bols" from 9 p.m. to midnighf to- morrow in the Union Ballroom. This is the first in a series of annual dances given jointly by the Union and League to replace the separate fall dances each has given in the past. Several years ago, McDon- ough and Art Stade, band man- ager, organized the combo which at present includes Mel Camp- bell, sax and clarinet; Bud Cook, trumpet; Art Stade, drums and Ivan Zahn, bass. Betty Magyar, vocalist for the group, had the lead in Soph Sa- tire and Soph Cab and also starred in last year's JGP. Specializing in requests, the group also features old-time fav- orites, waltzes and Latin American dances. McDonough, a sophomore law student, has written a great many tunes for past Union Operas, and he will feature a special arrange- ment of music he wrote for this year's opera at the dance Satur- day. Decorations at the dance will follow a football theme, featur- ing a football mobile hanging from a ceiling of purple, white, yellow and blue streamers. Northwestern's purple and white will also be seen on the programs for the event. Tickets for the dance, now on sale at the Union and on the Di- agonal, are $1.50 per couple. Featured as entertainment dur- ing intermission will be the Novel- aires, who are returning to cam- pus for this event, Ed Rabenscroft, drum-playing winner of last year's Gulantics, and Floyd Zarbock, drum major. The dance is open to all the campus with Northwestern stu- dents especially invited. League Dance .. .
