Speech Group To Give
Three One-Act Plays
Three original one-act plays will
be presented by the Department
of Speech at 8 p.m. Friday and
Saturday in. Lydia Mendelssohn
Theater.

The Michigan Council of the
American Association of Adver-
tising has announced its seventh
annual aptitude examination open
to students in their last year of
school who are interested in en-
tering the advertising field upon
graduation.
The five applicants who state
the best reasons for desiring to
do advertising work will win a
free examination to be held Feb.
14. Those persons interested should
obtain forms before Jan. 30 from
Chairman, Michigan Council,
American Association Advertising
Agencies, 535 Griswold St., Detroit.

BETTE ELLIS, Grad., recently
seen in "The Birds," will direct
"Catch the Gold Ring," by Marie
Diamond, '52. The story of sus-
pense behind the scenes in a trav-
eling carnival will feature Nancy
Born, '53, as an attractive aerial-
ist and Garlaine Balduf, Grad.,
as a side-show performer.
Others in the cast include
James Umphrey, Grad., Ethel
Atlas, '53, and Joel McKibble,
'53.
"The Legend of the Cornsilk
Doll," by Betty Borgen, '52, com-
bones both music and dance with
modern speech. It will be directed
by Conrad Stolzenbach, Grad.,
who was recently a comedy lead
in "The Birds."
The cast for "The Legend" in-
cludes Barbara Carse, '54, Lois
Wasserman, '54, Nancy Nelson,
'53, Zelda Benowitz, Grad.,
Diane Halbrook, '54, David Lyon,
'56, and Mark Fleischman, '56.
What happens to an aggressive,
domineering woman who ignores
her two best friends in an effort to
obtain a larger and socially more
important group of friends is the
basis for "The Party," by Anita
Fikel, '52.
Directed by Shari Anderson,
Grad., the play's cast includes Lois
Banzet, Grad., Ann Lewis, '53Ed,
and Mary Rispler, '54.
Boak To Present
Jerome Lecture
Prof. Arthur Boak will present
the fifth lecture in the Jerome
series on "Manpower in the West-
ern Roman Empire" at 4:15 p.m.
today in Rackham Amphitheater.
Prof. Boak, Richard Hudson

speak on "Manpower and the Fall
of the Roman Empire in - the
West."

Hogg To Present
Talk on Cortisone
Dr. John A. Hogg, of the Up-
john Company in Kalamazoo, will
give a Sigma Xi lecture on Corti-
sone at 8 p.m. today in Rackham
Lecture Hall.

Notices
Law School Admission Test. Applica-
tion blanks for the Law School Admis-
sion Test to be given on Feb. 21, may
be obtained at 1213 Angell Hall or 110
Rackham Building. These application
blanks are due in Princeton, N.J., not
later than Feb. 11, 1953.
College of Engineering Registration
Material. Students enrolled for the cur-
rent semester should call for spring
registration material at 244 West En-
gineering Building, Wed., Jan 21
through Fri., Jan. 23. The hours are 8:30
to 12and 1:30 to 5. Material will also be
available Feb. 2 through Feb. 6, from
8 to 12 and 1 to 5, and on Feb. 7 from
8 to 10:30.
Classification for Engineering Stu-
dents. There will be no classification of
Engineering students on Sat., Feb. 7,
1953. All classification must be com-
pleted by 5 p.m., Fri., Feb. 6, 1953.
Faculty Members. Opportunities for
Americans to take visiting professor-
ships in various subjects in several
foreign universities, from Columbia to
Johannesburg to Singapore, are listed
in a letter from the Educational Ex-
change Service of the Department of
State, which may be seen at the office
of F. E. Robbins, Assistant to the
President, 2556 Administration Build-
ing.
Late permission for women students
who attended the Gothic Film "Greed"
on Mon., Jan. 12, will be no later than
11:05 p.m.
Women Students. Instruction in
skiing will be given to women students
,at 7 p.m. today at the Woman's Athletic
Building. Skis may be rented at the
building.
Delta Delta Delta General Scholarship.
The 1953 Tri Delta General Scholarship
competition will be held January 5-
February 20, 1953. Women students in
colleges where there are chapters of
the fraternity are eligible to apply,
whether they are fraternity members
or not. The amount of the award will
not exceed $200 in any one case. For
further information, inquire at the
office of the Dean of Women.
Student Loans for Men. Students un-
able to pay in full loans due on or be-
fore Jan. 16 should see Miss Zimmer
immediately in 1059 Administration
Building. Applications for new loans
may not be made between Jan. 15 and
Feb. 3 or between Feb. 3 and Feb. 9.
The Loan Committee will meet Feb. 3.
Personnel Interviews.
On Wed., Jan. 14, there will be a
representative at the Bureau of Ap-
pointments from the Vita-Craft Corpo-
ration, of Chicago, to talk to students
interested in part-time summer work.
The position would entail the selling
of aluminum cooking 'utensils. There
will be a group meeting at 4 Wednes-
day afternoon for those interested. Call

The Gulf Oil Corporation, of Phila-
delphia, Pa., will have a representative
on the campus on Thurs., Jan. 29, to
interview Chemical, Mechanical, and
Industrial Engineers interested in Re-
finery Work.
Personnel Requests.
The American Association of Adver-
tising Agencies announces that the 7th
Annual Advertising Aptitude Examina-
tion will be held on Feb. 14. Applications
should be in no later than Feb. 6. De-
tailed information may be obtained at
the Bureau of Appointments.
The Beech-Nut Packing Company, of
Canajoharie, N.Y., has openings for an
Organic Chemist, Chemical Engineer
(or Organic Chemist with Engineering
background), Bacteriologist, or Food
Technologist.Due to the extensive re-
search and development of this com-
pany, these positions are open and
should be filled as soon as possibel.
The Michigan Civil Service Commis-
sion announces examination for Min-
ing Appraiser III. The examination will
be given on Mar. 7, and applications
must be in no later than Feb. 4, 1953.
The work would include the evalua-
tion and assessment of copper and
iron mines, exploration and mine
prospects, studies of geology and op-
erating conditions of property, etc. A
degree in Mining Engineering or in
Geology is required, with either two
years professional experience in the
field or one year experience with a
graduate degree in either of the above-
mentioned fields.
