Law Society Will Present Annual 'Wig and Robe' Bal I I Lawyers on campus will dem- onstrate how to hold court at their annual Wig and Robe Ball, from 9 p.m. to i a.m. tomorrow in the League Ballroom. Presented by the Barrister's So- ciety, the dance will feature Rex Smith and his band, who appeared at the dance last year. Open 'to the entire' campus, tickets may be purchased for $2.75 before the dance, but that night the price will go up to $3. Christmas decorations will 'pre- vail at the law society's dance, and Christmas trees will be in abundance. Undecorated trees will be ar- ranged around a central, deco- rated one, and the figure of a Chancellor, the traditional sym- bol of the Barrister's Society, which has been passed down from one class to another, will reign over the whole affair. Intermission entertainment has been planned, featuring the "Psurfs," law club singing group. The official title of the singers is the Ann Arbor Surf-riding-and mountain-climbing society. The traditional dance first took place 49 years ago. It seems that an up-and-coming law student by the name of Tommy Tortfeasor met with a group of his fellow stu- dents at the Orient, local tavern, which is no longer in existence. At that historic meeting, the group decided that it was time laboring law students had a break, so they sponsored the Wig and Robe Dance. The Barrister's Society also sponsors Crease Ball, traditional rivalry between engineers arld lawyers. Profits from the two an- nual dances, Wig and Robe and Crease Ball go toward furnishing scholarships to the law school.
