Put you wise to what?
I mean. . . now that I went out and bought a red suit
and all, what do I ... that is, isn't there something I should
know? Trade secrets maybe or,. ..
You mean like how to steer a reindeer?
Yeah. Yeah, that's right. Or how to be Saint Nick in six
easy lessons. Isn't there something I could read or something?
You mean a book? You want to read a BOOK on how
to be Santa Claus? Listen, son, you've either got it or you
haven't. You don't need a book. You don't need a union
card. This isn't a job. It's fun, boy. Like swinging up your
kid and giving him a hug when you come home at night.
Sure, sure I know that. I was a kid once, too,.remember?
But, Santa, you gotta do these things right. You know .. .
tree, tinsel, big smile, holly, gifts, carols, Tom 'n' Jerry,
greeting cards, bie smile, tinsel, tree.. .
You're pressing too hard, boy. You're all wound up.
Come off it and relax. All you have to do is try to make folks
happy. Give 'em part of your self with the gifts you get 'em.
Then the happiness comes back to you. Get it?
Yeah. Yeah, I get it. Hey, wait . . . I DO get it! Hey,
Santa, that's great stuff! Wonderful. Gee! I never knew it
was that simple. No wonder you can handle an assignment
like this! And there's nothing to read, huh?

I didn't say that. There is. You just weren't ready for it
till now. You got to FEEL like Santa before you start acting'
like Santa or you're only beating a busted drum. There isn't
any book that will tell you how to FEEL or BE like Santa.
But to ACT like Santa I go to ...y
You gust got to read where to get it, boy,;ivithout spread-
ing yourself too thin. You only got so much time.

And the name of the book, Santa . . . the name of the
book?
Who said anything about a book, Buster? You want
to make it sound like an education. I told you it's FUN. All
you got to do is pick up the MICHIGAN DAILY and start
reading the ads. Once you FEEL like Santa, that's where
Christmas begins.
