Ticket director William Aspin- wall said Monday shortly after word of the Big Ten invitation reached here: "An announcement will be made as to when orders will be accepted. It takes time to get things in order, so please take it easy on the post office and my office." Machinery for filling orders will be set up in about a week, Aspin- wall added. * * * USC Happy LOS ANGELES-- (M)-South- ern California officials, from Caoch Jess Hill ion down, ex- pressed satisfaction with the se- lection Monday of Wisconsin as the Trojans' Rose Bowl opponent. "I am very happy with the choice of Wisconsin because from all I've heard they are certainly the strongest team in the Big Ten," said Hill., Mel Hein, SC scout who saw the Badgers in their 21-21 tie with Minnesota Saturday, said he thought Wisconsin was by far the best team in the Big Ten. He saw Purdue play Mich- igan the week before. "Wisconsin has a very solid I- team, a fine all-around ground game and a steady defensive club," Hein commented. we can at last start pointing for a game, something we could not do all season during the tough Big Ten schedule. "In Southern California, we'll be playing the best West coast team since the bowl pact was started. It is a good and thor- ough single wing outfit with a brilliant defense. We'll be the underdog and rightfully so." Williamson said that the only team Wisconsin played all season that employs a strict single wing was UCLA. "WE DON'T plan anything new to use against USC," said Wil- liamson "Basically we'll use our same formations on attack, the straight and winged T. Several adjustments, however, will be made on defense. USC scouting reports and films of our games will show them the same stuff we'll use in the Rose Bowl." The Badgers, armed with scout- ing reports taken during the USC- UCLA contest, will compile more when the Trojans, now unbeaten in nine games, meet Notre Dame at South Bend, Ind., Saturday to finish their regular campaign. Cage Preview Coach Dave Strack's fresh- men cagers will scrimmage the Wolverine varsity at 8:00 to- night at Yost Field House. This will be the last major workout for the hoopsters before the season's opener with Marquette next Monday. Admission is free to everyone. A two-yard snap pass from George Blanda of the Chicago Bears to end Ed Sprinkle with nine seconds left in the game gave the Bears a 24-23 victory over the Detroit Lions Sunday. The loss left the Lions sharing first place in the National Foot- ball Conference with the San Francisco 49ers, who were tram- pled by the Rams, 35-9, the Green Bay Packers, who registered their fourth straight win against the Dallas Texans, 42-14, and the Los Angeles Rams. * * * UNTIL A WEEK ago Blanda had only been a place-kicker on the Bears' squad but in his new role at the helm of the team, he had a part in every point scored against the Lions. Blanda tossed two TD passes to Billy, Stone besides the one to Sprinkle, kicked a first period field goal, and made good on the three conversions. With Detroit trailing 17-16 and two minutes to go, Jack Christian- sen returned one of Fred Morri- son's punts 79 yards for a touch- down. ** * OPERATING from his own 32- yard line Blanda flipped aerials to Stone and Morrison to carry the Bears to the Lions' one.
