SUNDAY, OCTOBER. 19, 1852 THE MICHIGAN DAILY PADS I IT SUNDAY, OCTOBER 19, 1952 PAGE FI~ Quads Will Sponsor All-Campus Dances South Quad "The Extra Point," all-campus dance to be presented by South Quadrangle Saturday, Oct. 25 from 9 p.m. to midnight in the Michigan League will feature the atmosphere of campus on the day of the big game. The dance will be presented the evening of Homecoming as a re- sult of the postponement of the annual dance sponsored by the Student Legislature. * * * To WIND UP the day of the Michigan-Minnesota game and gala Homecoming festivities, cou- ples will dance to the music of Don Bari and his orchestra in the League. & Bari and his twelve-piece or- chestra were on campus last week to play for the annual I- Hop. He has appeared several times before on campus, playing last year for Senior Ball, and South Quadrangle's Christmas dance, Noel Moderne. With Bari featured on the sax- ophone, the band specializes in re- quests and original arrangements of popular hits and old fayorites to please the individual taste of every dancer. S* * IN ADDITION to Bari's orches- tra, dancers will be entertained by the piano styling of Hal Singer formerly associated with a local radio network. Price of tickets is $2 per couple and they are on sale on the Di- agonal, Angell Hall and South Quadrangle. Proceeds from "The Extra Point" will be donated to a University fund to be used for special edu- cational purposes. "It is our wish to provide a dance for the campus, with a wel- known orchestra, to accommodate the many couples who have made plans for the Homecoming week- end," Chairman Clyde Rowley stated. East Quad Continuing a tradition which dates from 1945 East Quad will again sponsor a campus-wide Homecoming Ball from 9 p.m. to midnight Saturday Oct. 25 at the Quad. Entitled "Jug - A - Jug" the dance's decorations will appropr- iately play up the old brown jug feud between this University and the University of Minnesota. * -* * THE CENTRAL committee rn- nounced that Paul McDonough and his orchestra will play for the dance. Paul's piano magic and the stylings of his five-piece orches- tra are well known to dance fans after his appearances at I-Hop and numerous fraternity parties. Students still hum "Can't Imag- ine," one of the hit songs he wrote for last year's Union opera which also happens to be the orchestra's theme song. The busy orchestra leader also intends to write the score for this year's Union Opera. * * * WHILE~RESIDING in Strauss House of East Quad, Paul keeps track of the kind of music the students enjoy and tries to satisfy their desires by playing Dixieland, Latin American Music, Waltzes and all standard dance tunes. The admission- price of $1.25 per couple will go to the East Quad Scholarship fund. Imre Zwiebel, co-chairman of the dance with Kenneth Preston, stated, "The East Quad council in- vites anyone on campus who wishes to attend the dance as the coun- cil's and residents' guests." As in past years, the men will wear suits and the women "dressy" dresses to East Quad's Jug-A-Lug Homecoming Ball. Birthstones The opal and tourmaline, both birthstones for those born in. Oc- tober, are equally expressive of this season of gay coloring. In each of them is captured some of the brilliance of a clear October day.j Fortnight Skit ThemeSet The central committee for Fort- night has chosen "Proverb" as the theme for -the Tuesday, De- cember 16 event. All dorms and independent houses planning to participate in Fortnight should base their skits on that theme. Further information on skits will be presented to skit chairmen at their meeting Tuesday, October 28 in the League. Betty Clhen has requested any houses who have immediate ques- tions on their skits to call her. That band will be Tommy Dorsey. The committee felt the students would rather hear Dor- sey's aggregation one week later than a less well-known band on the night of the regular Home- coming festivities. In a campus poll conducted dur- ing registration by the J-Hop com- mittee, this band was picked as the two-to-one favorite. * * * WHEN HE COMES to Ann Ar- bor, Dorsey will bring two vocalists, Marietta Know and Marv Hudson.
