A travel course with credit is be- ing offered this summer by Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. Under the direction of the history department, the course will com- bine history classes and a two- week tour of Cuba and Panama. AUTOMOBILES are being blamed by the Dean of Students at Michigan State College for a 25 percent increase in social vio- lations over the fall term. The dean said that about 95 percent of the cases reviewed resulted from students getting mixed up in sit- uations involving automobiles. The point of interest at Brown University in Providence, R.I., is not travel but a proposed ex- periment of "no regular lectures and no textbooks." The program. set to start next fall, is aimed at abolishing methods of mass ed- ucation.I According to press reports, the experimental project, financed by a $250,000 Carnegie Foundation grant, will concentrate on read- ing great works of literature, as well as reasoning, speaking, and writing. Freshmen with high aca- demic standing will be eligible to enroll in the test classes. ' Student leaders at Cornell and the University of Wisconsin are reorganizing student government there. At Wisconsin, the student government is being revised while at Cornell the independent stu- dents' organization is undergoing a change.
