University Phone 3-1733 By MIKE SCHERER ' This year's Michigras Spring Carnival almost found itself with an extra added attraction-a full size dog show . For a few hectic days, Michigras general chairman Jack Hamer, '52, had visions of the 1952 spring carnival sharing Yost Field House with 500 show dogs from all parts of the country, barking with true pedigreed spirit. M3urnan New Theater Head James Murnan, long familiar to purchasers of tickets at the Lydia Mendelssohn Theatre, was recent- ly appointed manager of the theatre. As manager, Murnan will fill the duties which Prof. Herbert Kenyon has performed since 1934. Prof. Kenyon is the retiring man- ager. A native of Ann Arbor, Murnan has had a long connection with the theatre. His father was asso- ciated with the management of a local theatre which attracted many Broadway stage productions and musical comedies from 1915 to 1929. Following his father's retire- ment, Murnan became treasurer for the Ann Arbor Drama Festival and has continued in that role since. WHEN MAKING, a routine checkup with Assistant Athletic Director Ernie McCoy about reser- vations, Hamer was startled to find that the field house had been promised to the Huron Hills Ken- nel Club for a dog show on April 27, Sunday of Michigras weekend. He further discovered that the dogs were scheduled to move into their field house kennels at noon Saturday, intruding right in the midst of the two day campus carnival. Hamer and Michigras commit- tee members were faced with the problem of finding another suit- able location or moving the carni- val up a week, but the crisis was ended when the Kennel Club agreed to move their show into the Intramural Building. THE DECISION came after a meeting of University athletic of- ficials, Hamer, and Dr. H. R. Ship- man, Ann Arbor veterinarian and general chairman of the Kennel Club show. Dr. Shipman explained it was impossible for the dog show date to be changed, since national publicity notices had already been released. Dr. Shipman yesterday said that he was relieved to have the situation straightened out. He admitted that Michigras rightly deserved the field house and said the Kennel Club would be perfectly satisfied with the I-M Building as a show location. ministration Building.- Registration beginning today, may be made between 6:30 and 7:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday this week and next week in Rm. 164 Administration Building.
