Tomorrow Marks Official
Beginning of Awaited Season
Cottons, White Bucks Take Place of Woolens;
Sunbathing, Arb Picnics, Bike Hikes To Start

The temperature may continue to perform gymnastics on the
thermometer, but Spring will officially arrive in Ann Arbor and
everywhere else tomorrow.
Within the next few weeks, traditional warm weather activities
will begin all over campus.
S * * * *
STUDENTS WILL desert their favorite coffee quarters for the
crowded steps of Angell Hall or the Library on a sunny afternoon.
And if it should rain (everyone feels sure that it will-only too often),
a steady stream of mud-spattered boots and yellow slickers will cross
the Diag.
Bright blue skies mean a general exodus to more favored
places than classrooms and dormitory rooms. Students who have
been faithfully attending history and psych lectures during the
cold weeks of the semester begin to use some of those saved up,
precious cuts.
Picnics on the Island, bike hikes through the Arb and a little
later, an all-out effort to get a tan on Stockwell's large sundeck-
these are sure signs that Spring has decided to visit the campus once
again.

SERENADES seem to spring up with the first flowers and are
quickly followed by the sight of diamond rings flashing in the sun-
light around May and June.
The fashion parade takes a big turn too. Coeds pack away
cashmeres and send urgent messages home to mothers to send
cool cottons and lightweight coats.
The men begin polishing up their last year's white bucks or decide
on sporting a new pair this season. New Easter hats are foi'emost
in every coed's mind preceding the bunny and egg occasion.
THE TENNIS COURTS and baseball stands at Ferry Field are
filled with students eager to celebrate the long-awaited appearance of
Spring. And much later, there are enthusiastic trips out to popular
swimming holes.
Couples begin to take long walks through the "City of Trees''-
all the while thinking that Ann Arbor is a pretty nice place to be
in the spring.
A gay whirl of traditional formals, parties and picnics take place
an the campus eai Wspring. Every coed learns to keep her wardrobe
well stocked with jeans and formals for social events during the warm-
er months of the year,

FEMININE FORMALITY-Lou Boonstra and Sue Trometer, accompanied by their dates, Chick
Gast and Dave Barrett, are shown modeling the latest formal creations for the spring season. Baller-
ina and long formal lengths are again vieing for popularity with the college crowd.
