Adelia Cheever celebrates Christmas early in the morning at their annual breakfast. Bacon and eggs, Christmas carols, live- ly antics by the housemother and poems about each member of the house are combined for a holiday atmosphere. The waiters at the Gamma Phi Beta and Alpha Chi Omega hous- es are given an evening off when the coeds put on the familiar white coats and serve dinner. Both hous- es top the evening off by reading poems about each member. THE CHILDREN at University Hospital will be showered with toys from many of the women's Frt I. By ROBERTA MACGREGOR Many traditional home and tree decorations can be combined with newer and more unusual ideas to make the home distinctively bright and cheerful during the Christmas season. A plain green wreath, covered with wheat, bright artificial flow- ers and strawflowers bound to the wreath by florist's wire and hung before a mirror in the hallway, will welcome guests during the entire season. TABLES throughout the home can hold decorations which will help carry out the Christmas theme. The' manger scene is effective on an occasional table of medi- um height while a low coffee table will hold a "Santa-Claus- in-the-snow" scene, of particu- lar interest to small children. This effect is achieved by an- choring a wax Santa Claus in a large rose bowl and covering him with water. White moth balls put %FV Q l v P SHOO SALE " 67 88 in the water will bounce up and down when citric acid is added, giving the impressions of snow- balls bouncing on Santa's head. ALMOST ANY table can be brightened by a bowl full of Christmas tree ornaments or a large candle surrounded by greenst and ornaments. Another table decoration is a mound of greens with a large number of Gipfel inserted in the mound. A Gipfel is the top- most ornament of a Christmas tree and will stand up in the greens. The centerpiece on the dining table is of particular interest dur- ing the festive season and can be constructed to match each occa- sion. FOR A SNACK party, an Italian bread ring holding wheat and dried flowers makes a novel centerpiece. The bread is placed on a chopping board with crumpled chicken wire in the center to anchor the dried flowers. Limes, lemons and walnuts may be heaped at the base of a Values to 12.95 Wool driving gloves with pigskin palms . . . 4.00 pr.-Main Floor. $3-99 Also in red corduroy Ladies' Billfold by Lady Buxton,... 3.50, 5.00 and 7.50 plus tax. Vari- colored candles perched on the individual branches will lend color to nearly any occasion. Higher style for a formal dinner is achieved by dipping a thin wooden basket in fabric dye and filling with bunches of dried flow- er hearts and tiny strawflowers called rockets. These can be pur- chased from a florist and are held in place by chicken wire. ** * FOR THE MANTEL, candles surrounded with holly may be in- serted in wine bottles and placed on each side of the fireplace. A buffet table may be covered by a glittering garland as long as the table, This is done by wiring a plain green garland to plaster candlesticks dyed green. The garland is suspended between candlesticks and decorated with silver and blue Christmas balls. Christmas tree ornaments of various sizes can be arranged in the form of a holiday train and put on a felt track. Angel's hair smoke and a simple frame around the scene make the "picture" real- istic for small children. , We suggest our pretty HIGHLAND FLING 12.95 s ... to make gift-giving easy!
