PAGE TWO THE MICHIGAN DAILY WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 26. 19.51 11 e---- i -- = Grid Season Programs Given Away Students, picking up their foot- ball tickets at Barbour gymnasium this week, are receiving a season football program free of charge. The programs contain the names and numbers of all University and opposition players for the 1951 grid season. By obtaining a program now, students will not have to buy one before every game. * * * THE DISTRIBUTION of the best seats within a section will con- tinue to be staggered throughout the day, so those with early classes will not be penalized. The seats will be given to students in the order in which they come in, and "those who wait around" will not be given an opportunity to pick off the best seasts, according to Bob Ferry, '52E. All students wishing to obtain tickets are asked to bring their number six railroad ticket coupon with them to the gym. Through a system of alphabetiz- ing, the University will check on the number of tickets given each student, and disciplinary action will be taken against those who have received more than one. OLD GREY MARE? , Horse Shoe Proves Unlucky for Professor Radio Lessons The old grey mare wasn't what she could have been. Yesterday it seemed that a Uni- versity professor might have the chance to prove that horses roamed through Michigan ten thousand years ago, long after the last ice cap had supposedly re- moved them fro mthis area, and some time before the Spaniards had reintroduced the animal to North America. This would have been a major find for Prof. Claude Hibbard of the geology depart- ment. * * * PROF. HIBBARD received a phone call from Ypsilanti where a construction company had un- covered several fossil bones, while breaking ground for a new plant. Prof. Hibbard and the University Museum's Preparator, William Buttner, drove to the area, which had been excavated down to a depth of sixteen feet. The workmen had already re- covered several fossil bones, among them an almost perfect jaw and parts of an animal's pelvis. Prof. Hibbard recognized a tooth shown to him as that of a horse. Descending into the pit, Prof. Hibbard and Buttner made their way to the site of the excavations. The walls of dirt around them showed that the animal had been uncovered at about the depth a ten-thousand year old animal shouldbe uncovered. It was ap- parent that if all went well, a new page would be added to geological history. Prof. Hibbard dug away the loose dirt and uncovered more and more bones. A small knot of workmenrgathered around. pausing from their work to watch scientific history in the making. Discarding the shovel and dig- ging with his hands, Prof. Hibbard dragged several ribs from the ground. Then he found something which definitely dated the ani- mal's remains. It was an old horse- shoe-U. S. Steel, finest made'. Ticket Resale Service Opens The Union ticket resale service will again resell non-student foot- ball tickets this season, beginning with the Michigan State game Sat- urday, according to Bill Burke, '53, Union staffman.
