Soop, director of the Uni- versity's Extension Service, has been elected a member of the board of directors of the National Extension Association. His election to office took place at the annual meeting of the or- ganization in Bend, Oregon. Jeserich took of- f ice as dean of the dental school, but comparatively speaking, he is still considered a new administra- tor at the University. Succeeding Dr. Russell W. Bunting, DeanhJeserich wasin- troduced to the University with this commendation by then Presi- dent Ruthven: "We are all agreed that the broad interests of Dr. Jeserich, his professional know- ledge and his ability to work with the profession will keep the den- tal school in the preeminent posi- tion which it has long occupied." DR. JESERICH had been on the faculty of the dental school since 1933 and director of the W. K. Kellogg Foundation since 1936. A native of Chicago, he received a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in 1924 from the University. Tow Secon To Hatcher In Position Vice President Marvin L. Nie- huss, famed for his handling of Universitybudgetary matters, will be assuming some new duties this fall-duties which will place him second only to the president in ad- ministrative rank. In addition to remaining as one of the University's two vice-presi-" dents, Niehuss has been given a new title by the Board of Regents: dean of faculties. The new post' encompasses responsibilities of the provost position, vacated June 3( by the resignation of James P. Adams. NIEHUSS' new office will include some of the duties of his previous post (vice-president in charge of University relations) as well as most of the provost's duties. He will have charge of the faculties and curricula and will work closely with the deans of the University's 15 schools and colleges. Dean Brown received a Bache- lor of Science degree in chemistry from New York University. He holds the degrees of Master of Pictures, courtesy of University News Service Science in Engineering and Doc- tor of Philosophy, both obtained at the University. Joining the University faculty as an instructor in chemical en- gineering in 1920, Dean Brown attained the position of profes- sor in 1930.
