x FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 2, 1951 THE MICHIGAN DAILY PAGE FMI I I Little Club Opens Tonight at League AIM To Sponsor Weekly Dances FeaturingCombo Students who are not 21 have a chance to enjoy all the advant- ages of a nightclub at the reopen- ing dance of the "Little Club" to be held from 8:30 p.m. to midnight tonight on the second floor of the League. Sponsored by the Association of Independent Men, the "Little Club" employs an atmosphere like that of many big town nightclubs. TABLES COVERED with check- ered tablecloths topped by whiskey bottle candle holders will surround the dance floor. Bob Leopold's combo will pro- vide music for dancing and will also present novelty numbers during the intermission. Another feature of the evening's entertainment will be group sing- ing of many of the favorite college songs. IN BETWEEN dances couples may visit with their friends at surrounding tables or replenish the energy spent in dancing at the refreshment bar to be set up by the members of the club. The price of admission will be $1 for couples spending the en- tire evening at the club and 74 cents for those dropping in aft- er 10:30 p.m. "Little Club" was opened last year as a part of AIM's social pro- gram and to provide a service for both affiliated and independent students. Jordan coeds will fight their way out from under piles of note- books, pencils and long over-due assignments to attend their record dance entitled "Homework Hangover" tonight. Bluebooks, books, caricatures of professors and other unpleasant reminders of approaching midsemesters will decorate the ballroom as the couples dance away their homework blues. Calls of grand right and left and swing your partner will ring out at Couzens Hall tonight at their fall square dance. Autumn and Halloween decorations will set the scene for the dance. Featured as the afternoon's en- tertainment will be record dancing to be held before and after the game as well as during half time. The football game will be tele- vised over a Lansing station and Union officials state that they hope to be able to pick up the program on the Union television set. In case the channel is too weak, a large gridiron drawn on the blackboard will provide an out- line on which students can watch the progress of the game. The plays will be chalked up on the blackboard by a football ex- pert so as to provide as close a substitute to television as pos- sible. The Unign invited all coeds on campus to attend the second in away-game festivities. The entire afternoon's enter- tainment will be offered free of charge. The regular Union dance will take place from 9 p.m. to 12 mid- night Saturday in the Union Ball- room. Clare Shephard and his band will provide the music for the regular Union dance. Johnny Harberd and his or- chestra will provide the music for the annual coed-bid League Fall Dance to be held from 9 p.m. to midnight tomorrow night in the League Ballroom. An Oriental theme, "One Night in a 1000," will be carried out by the decorations. An Arabian genie will guard the entrance to the ball- room. The stage from which the band will play will be partially en- closed by a star bedecked curtain. MURALS WILL add to the color and mood by depicting various scenes from the "Arabian Nights." Special guests of the League Social Committee which spon- sors the dance, will be the League Executive Council and the Union Council. These groups previously met at an annual dinner. The dance programs will be cov- ered in red cellophane with a replica of an Arabian lamp in the foreground. TO THE DORMITORY or sor- ority house which sells the most tickets in proportion to the num- ber of women living in the house, the central committee will award a $10 and a $5 gift certificate. Women may purchase tickets for the dance at the League, Union or residence halls. The fall dance in past years was formal but for the second year, informality will be stressed this fall. Last year's dance also featured Annual Coed-Bid Fall Dance To Be Held in League Tonight Johnny Harberd's orchestra. A Halloween theme was carried out with ghosts, jack-o-lanterns, bats and witches used in the decorating scheme. Play, Classes Will Be Held Registration for play and dance classes for children, ages from four to 12, will take place at 9 axn. Saturday in Barbour Gymnasium. These classes, sponsored by the Department of Physical Education for Women, will be held on seven consecutive Saturdays, beginning this Saturday and ending Decem- ber 14th. Six to eight years old are sche- duled from 9:30 to 10 a.m. for games and self testing activities and from 10 to 10:30 a.m. for rhythms. The nine to 12 age group will meet from 9:30 to 10 a.m. for rhythms and from 10 to 10:30 a.m. for games and self testing activi- ties. Pre-school children, from ages four to six, are scheduled from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. for rhythmic activities, story telling and quilt activities. The booklet calendars, which are approximately 4 by 6 inches, contain many familiars campus scenes as well as a space large enough to accomodate daily ap- pointments. Scenes in the calendar include Alumni Memorial Hall, Engineer- ing Arch, Hill Auditorium, Angell Hall, the President's Home, Uni- versity Hospital, Administration Building and the Michigan League and Union. Still clinging to memories of Homecoming weekend, Anderson House men have salvaged bits of their Homecoming display to be used as decorations at their record dance. Alpha Chi Sigma's, trying to forget these trying times of infla- tion will go back to the day's of the depression during their Hard Time's party. Couples will play games and dance to records. November Nocturne is the theme of Kleinstueck's formal dance held in conjunction with Allen Rumsey House. Bob Elliott's orchestra will provide the music for couples to waltz through scenes depicting Fall and Winter. * * * * Adams House men and their dates will go "Halfway to Heaven" via the modern transportation of rocket ships and jets. The rooms of the house will be divided into erie scenes which are calculated to turn viewers' hair white. * * * * The houses of the Inter-Cooperative Council have planned a Hal- loween get-together at the Nakamura House. The ICC Band will play for the party. Corn stalks will adorn the Theta Delta Chi house for their Hal- loween jean party and erie costumes will be the evening's attire at the Beta Theta Pi House. Orange tapers lit the dining hall as the women ate dinner by can- dlelight. Orange sherbet and lic- orice-orange gum-drops carried out the Halloween color scheme. Entertainment consisted of two Halloween group songs done in costume and a solo by Roni Ryria who was draped in black robes and hat singing, "Be-witched, Be- draggled, and Be-deviled." A mask contest, judged by Mrs. Diekema, house mother, was won by Rosemary Backman with her mask representing the "..ew Re- public" which was the subject of a heated debate in the dorm not long ago.
