"The recurring lament of for- eign students that they have never seen into an American private home has been answered by the opening of the Madelon Pound House," Dr. Esson M. Gale, direc- tor of the International Center, said at the open house dedication ceremonies for the House Sunday. Several hundred foreign stu- dents, f a c u t y members' and townspeople visited the three floor residence at 1024 Hill which has been remodeled to supplement the facilities of the International Cen- ter THE REMODELING of the home was done by the University with funds provided by Arthur Pound and his wife Madelon, for whom the house is named. At 3:30 p.m. Sunday Presi- dent and Mrs. Harlan H. Hatch- er, the Pounds, Regent and Mrs. Roscoe Bonisteel, Mr. and Mrs. Esson M. Gale, Michael A. Gor- man and guests gathered in the main drawing room for an in- formal dedication ceremony. Gorman, editor of the Flint Journal and life-long friend of the Pounds, described the inter- est and generosity the facily has shown toward the University and their contribution to Flint, where Mrs. Pound's father was a pioneer automobile manufacturer. MRS POUND then presented to Regent Bonisteel a facsimilie draw- ing of a plaque which will be af- fixed to the front entrance of the house. The plaque bears the name of the house and a quotation from Robert Burns flanked ' by two torches of learning and the Uni- versity seal. In an acceptance speech Re- READ and USE DAILY CLASSIFIEDS FREE_ ..Du gent Bonisteel expressed the be- lief that with the addition of Pound House the International Center will continue its work of the past in breaking down in- ternational barriers on campus. A Community Committee was recently formed, representing civic clubs of the city, to de- sign plans for channeling for- eign students as guests and visi- tors in American homes.
