The Arts Theatre Club will op- en on Tuesday with a twelve- week season of theatre-in-the- round. * * *: THE GROUP plans to give six different bills this spring, with each of the programs running two weeks. Opening activities will be a double feature: "The Res- pectable Prostitute," by Jean Paul Sartre and "Red Peppers," by No- el Coward.- More Funds Needed Says Wtlhanis "The University and other state colleges must have financial aid if they are to render maximum con- tributions to the present national situation," according to Robert L. Williams, assistant to the provost.' In an article in the March issue of the Michigan Education Jour- nal Williams explains that in- creased appropriations would not provide added money for operat- ing expenses, but would merely be a substitute for funds supplied in recent years by the Veterans Ad- ministration. "In the current year, 1950-51, appropriations to Michigan insti- tutions are lower than many other states maintaining comparable universities," Williams points out. "Faculty standards of living are below the level of 1939," Wil- liams continued, "while the popu- lation as a whole has increased its standard well above the '39 level." He warned that it has taken decades to build up academic strength at the University. 1 / to! Xhe remaining five plays will be presented in this order: "Hotel Universe," by the late Philip Barry; "T h e Master Builder," by Henrik Ibsen; "The Recruiting Officer," by George Farquhar; "Martine," by Jean Jacques Bernard; and "Romeo et Jeanette," by Jean Anouilh. Ed Troupin, one of the nine ex- students running the venture and the group's business manager and music director said yesterday that a membership in the club costs $6. This entitles a person to at- tend each of the shows. THE GROUP needs to have 1800 members to operate success- fully, and 500 by next Tuesday's opening, Troupin said. So far, he estimated there were around 400 members. To get a membership, Troupin Read Daily Classifieds MICHIGAN DAILY Phone 23-24.1 HOURS: 1 to 5 P.M.
