It's a rare Eskimo that lives in an gloo-most of them build their homes of stone and sod. And their favorite delicacy is warm walrus blood-fresh from the carcass. x * * THESE and many other inter- esting facts about the Eskimo can be discovered by browsing through the current University Museum's display, "Customs of the Eskimo." For instance, Eskimos don't kiss by rubbing noses. Sniffling affectionately; they rub their faces together--and somehow their noses get in the way, Prof. Volney Jones, curator of the ex- hibit, explained. And while an American thinks' nothing of trading his used car in for a new one, with the Eskimo, it's his wife he trades. He'll gladly lend his wife to afriend-to oil his boots for him." Prof. Jones said. * * * INSTEAD OF LIPSTICK, the Eskimo wears lip plugs, Prof. Jones continued. The lower lip is perforated and the plug inserted. It is supposed to improve the , beauty of the wearer, and both men and women wear it proudly. These plugs come in assorted' colors and styles and can be easily removed, he added. "And the Eskimos are experts in ivory-carving." They use ivory for harpoon' heads and harness-fittings. "Armed with nothing but i quick spear and a keen eye, th Eskimo must depend on his cun- ning and ingenuity. It's a constant race between man and cold, and the Eskimo has to move swiftly to win," Prof. Jones said.
