Relieved by the decline of post- war enrollment, Dean of Students Erich A. Walter expressed satis- faction with the situation of the unmarried students, but reiterated his discontent over the plight of the married veterans. * * * HE DECLARED that housing facilities for married veterans are still a difficult problem. All the University Terrace apartments, and the Emergency Housing Pro- ject behind the Coliseum were rented long ago. Waiting lists of considerable length are on file with the Dean of Student's Office. Veterans on the waiting list at Williow Run can expect no vacancies for about two months. Dean Walter said that the gov- ernment project is now housing 885 married student veterans and their 'families, as well as 118 facul- ty families. CAUGHT by the lack of hous- ing, many married students have sought accommodations in the outskirts of Ann Arbor. Their hopes for rooms in the new men's dormitory, South Quadrangle, were deflated with the announce- ment that the building would .not be completed this Fall. Castings for the Student Play- ers' production of "Light Up the Sky" have been announced by Burt Sapowitch, '51, producer and pres- ident. Harriet Bennett, '52, and Ron Soble, '51, will play the leads of Irene Livingston and Sidney Black. Chofal Society Seeks Large OperettaCast Students who can carry a mon- otone, pound a nail into wood, or dance a two-step were invited by President Gary Hicks, '51, to at- tend the tryout meeting for the Gilbert and Sullivan Society's "Gondolier" production, to be held at 7:30 p.m. today in the League. "Six agile dancers are especial- ly needed," Hicks continued. "They will carry the main burden of the dance routines, backed up by a fifty-member chorus." ONE OF THE largest principal casts of the whole Gilbert and Sullivan repertoire is required for this Venitian production. Eleven singing principals and two mutes make up the headlining cast. Try- outs for these roles will begin im- mediately, according to Hicks, and prospective soloists may sign up at tonight's meeting. Stage manager Lewis Paher also requested students interest- ed in the production side of the operation to come to the meet- 14g. "We've got lots of work to do to build a set'that looks like Ven- ice," he said, "and we'll need a lot of people to build authentic can- als and castles."
