GE TWO THE MICHIGAN DAILY THURSDAY, DECEMBER 2Z, 1.950 THE MICHIGAN DAILY THURSDAY, DECEMBER 21, 1950 CHAOS REIGNS: Vacation-bound Students Disrupt Travel Agency , 4 S S F ,; mw.m- , A gmwFd-m Effin N'f By WENDY OWENI A mob of homeward-bound stu- dents turned the office of .a local travel agency into bedlam yester- cday. They descended on the napless staff in the late afternoon with requests to cancel or change re- servations and in the ensuing chaos agency clerks realized that they, too, needed a vacation. A TYPICAL student wanted to change a reservation from today, to tomorrow because he needed clothes to wear when he was at home. Ann Arbor cleaners were irnfble to provide him with his freshly laundered garments until Friday. Carol Singers. Roam About Cold Campus (Continued from Page 1) But another coed, who thought it wiser to be nameless, insisted that combined caroling, or even caroling itself was relatively un- important. "What really counts," she as- serted, "is that women can get late permission for the night." ALMOST ALL residences greet- ed the singers enthusiastically with only a few tongue-in-cheek "knock it offs" marring the favor- ab e response at the exam-harried quads. Even the staid, hard-working lawyers found time to listen to the carol singers, some of the barristers taking long enough to give a group a round of ap- plause. And to cap the evening, the Phoenix Executive Committee, its campaign of soliciting student contributions over yesterday, went out to sing carols as the first step in obtaining a well-earned rest. My home town's ary," he complained, ple don't understand, aren't dressed." reaction- "the peo- when you The young man, who hailed from Pittsburgh, was talked into keeping his reservation, much to the consternation of the young lady who hung over his shoulder chanting at intervals, "But wouldn't you like to take a bus Friday." THE PHONE rang constantly and the clerk in charge of the in- strument alternately soothed and encouraged anxious travelers. "I haven't even had a chance to contact the airport since you call- ed," she repeated, "but I'm sure something will come through." "No you cannot take your skis wtih you on the plane, why don't you send them by air freight." When a cancellation came in the office staff was electrified. All clerks immediately sold it to their respective customer. Then two of them hadsto cancel their s a1e s, and passengers were switched from one flight to another recklessly. The confusion was so great one clerk drank a coke down at a gulp and then searched vainly for three minutes to find it, alter- nately accusing the rest of the staff of downing it. The final blow was a young man who wanted to go to Luding- ton. At last report he was signed on a plane bound for Milwaukee and planning to hitch-hike, skis in hand, across Lake Michigan. Oine-Acts Due After Vacation The second bill of one-act plays, presented by students of the speech department, will en- liven the first weeken'd after va- cation. Playing at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, the bill will boast two original plays written by Univer- sity students. The first will be "Boke's Friend's" by J. Shelton Murphy, '51, and the second, "The "\oods Are Still" by Dan Waldron, '51. Both were written in the one- act play writing course in the English department. In addition to these, the play bill will feature "Wurzel-Flum- mery" by A. A. Milne, and Edna St. Vincent Millay's "Aria da Ca- po." Tickets for the production will be on sale at the Lydia Mendels-I sohn box office Wednesday. MICHIGAN DAILY Phone 23-24-1 HOURS: 1 to 5 P.M.
