Rising .Prices To Influence Cost ofCandy As if an impossible German translation, a 2000 word English theme or a math blue book are not enough to frustrate Joe Col- lege, candy manufacturers have to worry him further by talk of shrinking the five-cent candy bar. "There won't be much of a five- cent bar left, if at all, unless the cost of raw materials stops going up," said Harry Lustig, executive secretary of the Association of Manufacturers of Confectionery and Chocolate. "The candy will either have to shrink drastically or go up in price." "Cocoa has gone up from 400 to 500 per cent, and it is still rising daily, and so are corn syrup and sugar," Lustig said. Accord- ing to Lustig, candy manufactur- ers have been having a hard time ever since price controls were lifted after the war. The big question is whether to increase the price or to sell puny little bars at the usual nickel price. Some manufacturers have already increased their wholesale prices, although this has not yet affected the consumer, Lustig said. Adorning the walls of the New- berry living room will be painted sugar plum fairies with yarn eye- lashes and hair. Mistletoe will also be placed in all the strategic places. To complete the setting in San- ta's workshop, children's toys will be placed under a decorated Christmas tree. The gifts will be given to children in the hospitals later. Carrying out an old tradition, Barbour and Newberry coeds and their dates will attend both dances during the evening. as they toured all the local toys Religious Association To Hold Caroling Party Christmas caroling at the Washtenaw County Infirmary is being sponsored by the Student Religious Association tonight.
