Franklin Schull, of the zoology . department, was named 26th Henry Russel lecturer last night. The appointment was announced by Prof. Vernor Crane, of the his- tory department,' president of the University Research Club, which chooses the lecturer. Prof. Shull will deliver the lec- ture this Spring. * ** PROF. SHULL, 69 years old, be- gan his retirement furlough at the end of the Summer Ssession and will become an emeritus professor Aug. 1. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University in 1908 and a Doctorate of Philo- sophy from Columbia University in 1911. He then became a zoology in- structor in the University and was promoted to assistant professor in 1912. * * * PROF. SHULL became an asso- ciate professor in 1914 and has been a professor since 1921. The lectureship is awairded each year to a faculty member judged by the Research Club to have achieved high distinction in his field. The club consults with the former lecturers in making choices. Henry Russel, of Detroit, endow- ed the lectureship. He received from the University a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1873, a Master of* Arts the next year and a Bachelor of Laws in 1875. Bloomer Honored Prof. Harlan Bloomer, of the speech department, who is also director of the speech clinic, was elected vice-president of t h e American Speech and Hearing As- sociation at its annual meeting.
