FRIDAY, OTOE,1 , 1rE 5 ; Affeet of TV , -a On 'U' grades Television, which has replaced comic books apparently has had no effect on the study' habits of University students. Kappa Nu and Zeta Beta Tau fraternities copped their housing group's grade honors despite tele- vision distractions whereas the least fortunate fraternities reach- ed the bottom of the list without the aid of TV. Calls to grade-happy sororities showed TV sets lacking in the houses of Alpha Epsilon Phi and Chi Omega, the sororities with the best grades. However, those soror- ities with the lowest listings did not possess sets either. A check of other housing groups shoaled that those on the lowest section as well as those on the top. section of the grade listings did not have direct access to the new medium. Rshees Total' Nearly_700 Six-hundred ninety-eight men trooped to the Interfraternity Council offices in the last two weeks to register for rushing, ac- cording to Bill Henderson, '51 NAdA. secretary. Last fall's total of rushees was estimated at 700, Henderson said. 11C is investigating charges of- Minor violations of the rushing rules, Henderson added. He did not disclose the nature of the vi- elations or the names of the houses involved. MSC Discipline Michigan State College yester- i, day imposed a strict disciplinary probation on 13 students who par- ticipated in near riots Friday and Saturday nights in East Lansing. The penalties, which were an- nounced by Dean of Students Tho- mas ling, prohibit the students from participating in college activ- ities and will continue until lifted by Dean King at the petition of the students. THE MTCHIGAN DAILY Prospective Pledge -Daily-Rick Sanderson DIRTY RUSHING?-Not in the least say the men of Phi Kappa Tau fraternity. "Blackie," here shown perusing some rushing material as he sips his lunch, just wandered into their house late Wednesday night, unenticed by catnip or cream. If its owner does not claim the well-kept, long-haired black cat, the Phi Taus are pretty well agreed that they've picked up one new member at least in this rushing period. Anyone who feels the cat may be his should call Phi Tau house manager Tom Graham at 3-8581. Prof. Richard Schniedwind, of the metallurgical engineering de- partment, was listed as a candi- date for the Sparks-Withington Company's Board, which is now under fire as being "stale and fearful." Dawson, Democratic candidate for Congress in the Sec- ond District, and his Republican opponent George Meader, Demo- cratic Party Headquarters in Ypsi- lanti reported yesterday., However, a party spokesman felt certain that civic groups in the district's major communities will offer their backing in the near future. The two candidates agreed Tuesday to give a series of debates on major national and interna- tional issues. Prof. Dawson issued the challenge, expressing his hope that non-partisan groups in the area might make the discussions possible. Meader promptly accept- ed.
