The Union Council, sponsor of the dance, apparently believes in facing the inevitable. Since finals will be foremost in many a stu- dent's mind the Council has de- cided to deeorate the ballroom in true academic form. Bluebooks of every size and shape will dangle from the ceiling and dot the walls. A giant-size edition, measuring eight by ten feet, will loom up behind the bandstand under the beam of a bright spot light. I As students enter, an eager tick- et collector, buried in his books behind a desk piled high with papers and paraphernalia will give them miniature blue book programs. They will then proceed down a long hallway flanked by two con- tinuous blackboards. Chalk sus- pended on strings will encourage them to write witty remarks and solve equations on the slate. One fashion showing, sponsored by a prominent local women's store, is devoted exclusively to dresses for the year's only strictly formal dance. The show, which began Wed- nesday and will continue through Phis weak, is using models from members of Panhellenic and As- sembly Association. In a very casual atmosphere, onlookers may sit and look for an hour each day as coeds clad in evening gowns pass by. Although it is agreed by local merchants that Michigan women definitely prefer strapless gowns, or that the strapless is their fa- vorite, if the material the shops are showin is any indication, this year's J-Hop will be high-lighted by an abundance of ankle length dresses, not necessarily bare arcund the shoulders. Accessories shown with ankle- length dresses may be more elab- orate, especially in the realm of shoes. J-Hoppers this year can thus expect to find an array of satin and velvet pumps they have seen advertised but not worn be- fore. Materials range from the light- weight strictly formal cloths to the very heaviest. Rarely do you see such fine jewelry at this low price!
