International League franchise and shifting it 120 miles northeast to Springfield, Mass. Marking the first franchise switch in the top minor league strata in a dozen years, the Springfield entry will give the Cubs a triple A running-mate to their Los Angeles club in the Paci- fic Coast League. * * * THE NEWARK franchise was acquired from the New York Yankees after the Bears suffered painfully in attendance decline.
