At 7:30 p.m. tomorrow sorority women will head for the race- tracks to attend the annual Re- ebgnition Night, this year known as the "Panhel Derby." Racetracks will be located in the Rackham Amphitheater, but how the actual races are being conduct- ed is being kept strictly secret by the committee. * * * DEAN SMITH will award the scholarship cup to the sorority which has maintained the highest grade average over the past year. Gamma Phi Beta has kept the cup for two years in a row. Also .the top ten activity lead- ers of each class will be given special recognition for the mass of activity points which they have earned through outstand- ing participation in extra-cur- ricular activities. .. Coeds of Mosher Hall who won stop awards at Lantern Night last spring' will honor the audience with a song appropriate to the Vderby. Several faculty members will be included in the program and Miss Marie Hartwig, of the Wo- men's Physical Education Staff, says that their Grecian Dance of last year will be replaced by something even better tomor- row night. Another feature of the program will "be. the tapping of seniors for Sroll, honorary senior society. Besides these events, the com- mittee has announced an addition to the regular program which they promise will be fun and interesting to0 all. Bridge Teams Will VieToday If bridge is your forte, then the place to be at 2 p.m. today is the Terrace Room of the Union. The first of a two-session chal- lenge tournament between the University of Western Ontario and four players selected to represent the University will take place. The second session will begin at 7:30 p.m. Leading the Ontario contingent will be Bruce Gowdy, nationally acclaimed as one of the finest young bridge players in the coun- try. Gowdy was a member of the team which won the World Championship Team-of-Four at the Summer Nationals in Chi- cago in addition to winning five other major tournaments. The four members of the Uni- versity team are Al Clamage, Ed Bloom, Dan Babitch, and Milt Siegel. They will be one of the two teams representing the Uni- versity at the Intercollegiate Team-of-Four at Chicago in Feb- ruary. Clamnage and Bloom were on the team last year. Babitch and Clamage won the all - campus bridge tournament last year and Babitch and Siegel placed second- Future Rushees School for Fashion Careers To Give Three Fellowships I' Tobe-Coburn School for Fash- ion Careers in New York has an- nounced competition for three fashion fellowships for a one year course in 1950-51. Besides the followships which cover the full tuition of $900 for the year, the winners will also select as part of their award a hat from the fall collections of Sally Victor or Christian Dior. Senior women graduating be- fore August 20, of this year are eligible to compete for these fel- lowships. They must register be- fore Jan. 31, and in February they will be required to write articles on fashion topics. The winners will be announced in April. This is the twelfth nationwide competition for these fellowships which offer training for executive positions in the world of busi- ness. Courses and experience are given in buying, fashion coordina- tion, advertising and personnel. The course emphasizes actual contact with the fashion industry through lectures by important fa- shion personalities, visits to man- ufacturers and fashion shows and periodic working experience in stores and other fashion organi- zations.
