Marking the 21st annual Princi- pal-Freshman Conference, the event will draw principals of 138 Michigan high schools to the cam- pus. AT NOON Dean Hayward Ken- iston, of the literary college, will address the visiting principals on "Common Goals for Scho'ols and Colleges." Fourteen high schools in four other states, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio and New York, will be rep- resented. Deans of nine Michi- gan junior colleges will be pres- ent to interview former students who have transferred to the University. The first such conference was held in 1927 when, on the invita- tion of Ira M. Smith, registrar of the University, 14 principals of Detroit high schools came to Ann Arbor to confer with their gradu- ates registered in the freshman class. THE EXPERIMENT proved suc-' cessful. The following year, the other principals in the state were included in the invitation list. Each year has seen an increased attendance. Other universities and colleges in Michigan and in other states have now adopted the idea and hold similar conferences. In the days of antiquity men watched for the early rising of the star clusters Pleiades and Hyades as an omen of pending storms and bad weather, according to Prof. Hazel M. Losh of the Astronomy department. * * * DURING NOVEMBER these two star pictures are visible immedi- ately after sunset. The Pleiades is a cluster of six stars in the form of a small dipper. The "V" shaped Hyades is di- rectly below it with the left side of the "V" lieing almost parallel tio the horizon.
