TWO T}HE MICHIGAN DAILY FRIDAY, OCTOBER 28, 1949 Sig Eps First in Cross Country IL~f i * * * * NewmanClub Meets wene Co-opToday Robert Owen Co-op House and the Newman Club square off this afternoon at Ferry Field in the second round of play-offs for the Independent Section touch foot- ball crown. The winner of this tussle will take on the Hurricanes next Fri- day. Michigan Christian Society, which yesterday defeated the Wolves of League IV in the first round of play-offs, will play the Mites also next Friday. THE NEWMAN CLUB is leading League I, while the co-op squad is at the head of the pack in League III. The MCS's top League II. Michigan Christian Society made a strong bid for section honors by dropping the Wolves 19-7 in yesterday's game. The MCS outfit scored its three touchdowns in the first half. Tom OeVries, Hal Snyder, and Bob Lundberg each tallied once for the Society. Wayne Anderson scored the only TD for the Wolves in the second half. * * * ROBERT OWEN House and the Michigan Christian Society are rated good bets to dethrone last year's champions, the Newman Club. Bill Tomko, graduate assis- tant in charge of independent intramurals, announced yester- day that entries will be accept- ed next week for the Independ- ent handball tournament. Tomko, pleased with the re- sponse to the call for entries in the Independent volley ball tourney, is anticipating an equally good turn- out for the handball contests. t-i I-MNES John Hanson will meet Walt Luszki in the finals of the Gradu- ate division of the intramural ten- nis tournament next week. In the All-Campus section Dick Osborne has already clinched a spot in the finals. Osborne wlil meet the winner of the semi-final play-off between Thorpe Lichten- berg and Don Shreffler. Continuous from I P.M. Today & Saturday BASED ON THE FILES OF THE U. S.-DEPT.OF Fancett Stars For Williams In Third Win The theme of residence hall football seems to be "its the same old story" as Williams House con- tinues to dominate play through the third week of competition. Led, as usual, by its all-dorm star Bob Fancett, who scored three touchdowns, the defending cham- pions swamped a game but out- manned Strauss team by a 27-0 score. FLETCHER HALL kept up dim hopes of the championship as it beat a rough Vaughan House squad by a 12-6 score. Al Rotsko, who set an all-campus scoringrec- ord in basketball last year with 69 points, led the winners' attack. He and Bill Yudkin scored the touchdowns. Winchell House exhibited a good defense as it topped An- derson house by a 13-0 score. Remus Boila and George Bouch- er led the Winchell attack with a touchdown apiece. In another tight, defensive game, Lloyd House defeated Chi- cago House by a 2-0 margin. The two West quad foes battled on even terms all the way, with a safety scored by Len Steinbrueck being the margin of victory. ADAMS HOUSE entered the victory column for the first' time this year by topping Prescott 10-0. Chuck Van Dusen tallied a'touch- down for Adams, and EdHart added two safeties. At the end of the regular play- ing time the game was a scoreless deadlock. In overtime play Amato Contino intercepted a Sigma Phi pass and went all the way for the winning score. * * * THE OTHER first place playoff game saw Phi Sigma Delta take advantage of a last rhinute scoring opportunity to notch a 12-0 vic- tory over Alpha Delta Phi.
