TWO 0 TILE MICHIGAN DAILY THURSDAY, OCTOBER 20, 1949 II SELL HOMECOMING PINS: Beat Minnesota' Cry To Be Raised at Pep Rally CLASSIFIED ADVERTISING * * * * * * Sale of homecoming pins' is only the beginning of an exten- sive campaign to prove that stu- dents are solidly behind th/ football team, according to Al Hartzmark, of the Wolverine club. Climaxing the efforts to show that school spirit still flourishes will be the "Beat Minnesota" pep rally at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow at South Ferry Field, he said. * * * A TORCHLIGHT parade of the University marching band and the East and West Quad bands will pick up students from all corners of the campus, leading them to the Union where sit will start out at 7:30 p.m. for Ferry Field. Following , the pep rally a sweater and blue jean "Come as you are dance" will be held at' the Union. The Vaughn House Trio will provide intermission en- tertainment at the dance. THE Student Affairs Committee had considered discontinuing pep rallies because of the mis-directed enthusiasm of students after the Army pep rally which resulted in snake dancing through the wo- men's dormitories, Hartzmark ex- plained. Permission to hold the Min- nesota rally was granted by the SAC however, on the condition that similar mis-conduct would not occur, he added. "The Wolverine Club hopes that unthinkJing pranksters will not cause the discontinuation of fu- ture pep rallies," Hartzman said. THE PEP RALLY will be spon- sored by the Wolverine Club in conjunction with the Student Legislature and the "M" Club. Sale of homecoming pins will continue through Friday in front of the Union, League and several off-campus locations. Cost of pins for students will be 15 cents, and 25 cents for non-stu- dents. Pins will cost students fifteen cents, and non-students twenty-five cents. They will be sold in front of the League and Union through Friday. 2000 Students Register with Jobs Bureau Over 2000 students have already registered with the Bureau of Ap- nointments, Dr. T. Luther Purdom, director of the Bureau, announced yesterday. Dr. Purdom expects the regis- tration this year easily to exceed that of any previous year, partly because of the large senior class, and partly because of the tighter job situation. * * * ALTHOUGH jobs are scarcer this year, Dr. Purdom emphasized that students who want to work, and are willing to put more effort into getting jobs and accept "less desirable" ones, have a good chance of finding them. This year's job hunters are "the best group I've seen," Dr. Purdom declared. He held out hope for them, mentioning a Detroit reporter who, posing as a University grad- uate with no experience, was of- fered six full-time jobs. Ann Arbor Puppeteers, will give two puppet plays to point out the possibilities for such a creative arts group, said Jerry Witt who organized it. * * * MRS. TIMM will present "The Tale of Bella" and "South of the Rio Grande," drawn from the re- pertoire of the Ann Arbor Pup- peteers. The Puppeteers was organized a year ago as an outgrowth of a playground handicraft group, according to Mrs. Timm. "The children seemed to enjoy working with puppets so much that we decided to develop a pup- pet organization. We hope the Puppeteers will be able to work with the new student group," she said.' * * * THE student puppet group was organized by Witt as part of the Creative Arts department of the Student Religious Association. Members of the groups will learn to make puppets, write skits and help produce shows. Students from the education and architecture schools who have been working with puppets will form the nucleus of the organiza- tion, Witt said. "But we wish anyone who knows anything about puppets or who would like to learn will take part," he declared.
