Ac- cording to geographical experts, Penzance has been known as the Atlantic City of the Cornwall coast. A ruined Gothic cathedral which looms dimly in the dank fog of an ancient English ceme- tery will grace the stage of Pattengill Auditorium during the second act of "Pirates." Strength will undoubtedly have to be the main factor in the sec- ond act, set for the show's climax features a bang-up brawl between the buccaneers and a bunch of British bobbies. A British major-general also wanders into the fray, bringing with him his three real daughters and his 30 adopted ones. Besides confusing the issue of the battle, the fair Ladies contribute a mass love interest to the show's plot. Polonia Club ElectionHeld Laura Kawecki, '52, was elected t president of the Polonia Club at a meeting Tuesday night. Other officers elected were: Ted Miller, '50E, vice-president; Bonnie Polcyn, '50, treasurer; Florence Bedul, recording secre- tary and Norbert Podgorski, '50, social secretary. Chester Mayslicki of the economics department, was elected sponsor. The Polonia Club consists most- ly of students of Polish descent. Any student interested in social activities and Polish culture, how- ever, may join. As yet, no definite date has been set for the contest, which was inaugurated last year and has since become a permanent annual affair. This year the rivalry has been increased by the addition of a trophy-a two-inch replica of Michigan's "Little Brown Jug." The Newberry team will be trying for its second consecutive victory, but Barbour fans are counting on strategy plus a large team turnout to halt their opponents and collect the prize. The coaches teaching the Bar- bourites the intricacies of the end-around-end and quarterback-sneak are Jack Hayes and Jim Tartar. Eleanor Doersam is the girls' captain. SAW 1891 INAUGURATION: Professor To Gre et Stanford Head 'i PALO ALTO, Cal.-A former University professor nearing his 80th year will see a new president of Stanford University inaugurat- ed tomorrow. 58 years after he at- tended a simple ceremony when David Starr Jordan was made its first head. Bradley Moore Davis, a member of the botany department for 23 years, will present the University's greetings to John E. W. Saerling, to become Stanford's fifth ,presi- dent. Petitions for the offices of presi- dent and secretary-treasurer can be obtained at 150 Business Ad- ministration Building. There are six additional vacancies on the council. PROF. DAVIS, as a student, fol- lowed Prof. Jordan, in 1891, from Indiana University to Stanford' and was among some 30 students present at the inauguration. A year later, Prof. Davis was award- ed his diploma in Stanford's first graduating class. After doing graduate work at Harvard, where he received a Doctor of Philosophy degree in 1895, Prof. Davis taught at sev- eral universities. He came to the University in 1919. His research on the evening primrose gained him a reputation nationally known in botanical cir- cles throughout the country. Prof. and Mrs. Davis now reside in Portland, Ore.
