Campus Invasion Planned; CoedsTo WelcomeArmy wwx U By MARJORY REUBENE I Adding to the already perplex- ing date problem of male studentsI on this campus, 280 army cadetsI will invade the University this weekend. Most of the West Point invaders have arranged for their own dates through personal contacts, but twenty-two of them have request- ed blind dates. Obligingly, Jo Falk, Panhelenic president, and Mary Jo Wilson, president of Assembly spread the word and Michigan coeds responded enthusiastically., Practically swamped with ap- plications, the two presidents com- pared such vital statistics as height, weight, age and special in- terests and emerged with a list of hand-picked dates for the army men. To insure a good time for all, plenty of entertainment is planned for cadets and their dates. Most outstanding among a maze of events is the first all-campus dance of the year, the A/A Hop, spon- sored by AIM and Assembly. The "Welcome Army" dance, complete with decorations and Bob Strong's orchestra, will be held in the IM building. Panhelenic and IFC have an- nounced that to inject a touch of variety into the evening, cadets, and their dates may attend all so- rority and fraternity parties, open houses and other events. The senior cadets, who are the only students from West Point permitted to make the trip to Ann Arbor, will spend the weekend at the West Quad and eat at the Union. They will receive the names and addresses of their dates at lunch on Saturday and will con- tact the women they will escort after the Michigan-Army game. Maps have thoughtfully been provided to aid the West Pointers in finding their dates' residences; the stage is set and all is in pre- paredness to welcome the Army. First Meeting Of Rifle, Club Will Be Held A U.S. Army sergeant will be on hand to instruct members of this year's Rifle Club, which will hold its organizational meeting at 5 p.m. today in the WAB. "Experience is not necessary," according to Beverly Gibbs, man- ager of the club. "Anyone who wishes to learn to fire a rifle will have the opportunity to be in- structed." Each year the club sponsors sev- eral tournaments including a match fired by the University of Michigan Women's Rifle Team, which is composed of club mem- bers; an all-campus tournament, in which teams from the women's houses compete and postal matches with other universities. Throughout the year a record is kept of each woman's official tar- get scores, and on the basis of these and her attendance at the practices, the most outstanding member is chosen and her name put on the Sport's Honor Roll in the Women's Athletic Building. j TOMMIES * TOMMIES " TOMMIES * TOMMIES * TOM NEWS!
