The win gave the Wolverines a season's dual-meet record of seven wins against two losse( and es- tablished them as a serious con- tende, for the Western Confer- enc title to be decided next we~k- end at Iowa City. * * * 111G.'41.GT of the me t was Michigan sophomore, Bill Stapp's 5-2 decision over Bryee kdogh in the 155-lb. match. Keogh is the defending Western Conference champion in that division. The Wolvernes dominated the lighter weight divisions winning three of the first five matches and tying a fourth. Dave Space dropped a 3-2 decision to Paul Keogh at 136 pounds to give Ohio its lone decision among the little men. Keogh scored a take-down with only three seconds left in the match to pick up the necessary points for his win. * * * BYRZON DEAN stared the Wol- verines on the road to victory piling-t ip Mill Weber in tue 121- lb. class and hanging on for a 9-7 decision. Sophomore Larry Nelson add- ed an 8-6 decision ovc.r Ohio's George Modolet in a real thrill- er at 128 pounds. The defeat represented the first time in four years that the Buck- eyes defeated Michigan in a dual meet. And the one-sided score is one of the worst defeats absorbed by Matt Mann's swimmers in many years. * * * THE ONE BRIGHT SPOT of the afternoon for the Wolverines was the 400-yard free style relay in which Michigan registered its sole victory of the mect. Thy team of Charlie Moss, Dick Martin, Dave Tittle and Dave Neisch turned in the very good time of 3:30.4. Neisch, swimming the anchor leg of the relay, managed to build up a lead and touch out OSU' Boo Congelliere. State took first place in the 300-yard medley, the 220-yard free style, 50-yard free style, fancy diving, 100-yard free style, 150-yard free style, 200-yard breast stroke, and the 440- yard free style. In three of these events, the 100-yard free style, the backstroke and the diving, the Buckeyes swept both win and show sots. In the 300-yard medley relay State's team of Jack Tayler, back- stroke, Jose Balmores, breast- stroker and Frank Dooley, free style, broke both the pool and meet record with a time of 2:51.6 Taylor built up a lead over Michi- gan's Bernie Kahn which was closed slightly, but not enough by Moss and Neisch swimming breast stroke and free style, re- spectively. * * * JOSE BALMORES, in winning the breast stroke event for Ohio,1 Phone 2-0128 - TODAY & MONDAY - at 3:00, 6:10, 9:25 JONWA YNj Y Vera Ralston- Philip Dorn - Oliver Hardy Plus! at 1:30 - 4:45 & 8:00 GERALDINE BROOKS Starts Tues. "CHICAGO DEADLINE" "CHANGE OF HEART" established a new pool record of 2:22.4. John Davies finished sec- ond for Michigan. Balmores, who swam his best time in the event, is a sophomore from Brazil. Herbert Koboyashi of OSU was the only double-winner of the afternoon. Koboyashi just touched out Michigan's Dick Martip in the 50 - yard free style. Martin had led most of the way and faltered in the last few yards. It was the same story in the 100-yard free style where Moss of Michigan led most of the way but faltered in the stretch. Koboyashi inane a fast finish and woa in th~e titre of 51.8. Dooly tcook sec- ond for the Buckeyes and Neisch took third for the No erines. THE CAPACITY CROWD was treated to a phenomenal exhibi- tion of fancy diving by Bruce Har- lan, NC'AA and Western Confer- ence champ. Harlan won the event wit, a score of 130.7 with Jack Calhoun of OSU taking second and George Eyster of Michigan third. William Sonner turned in an excellent 1:34.6 in the 150-yard breaststroke. Sonner led all the way and the best Michigan's Kahn could finish was third be- hind Gordon Leaf of Ohio State. The Wolverines' distance swim- mers Gus Stager and Captain Matt Mann III captured second and third respectively in both the 220- and 440-yard free style events. In the 220, State's Charles Stephanos came in first while Jack Taylor turned the trick for the Buckeyes in the 440. * * * YESTERDAY'S MEET was the last dual meet of the cuirent sea- son for the Wolverines. Matt Mann was enth.isiastic in -is praise for the Buckeye swimmers and is going- to work his team hard this week in preparation for the Big Ten Championships which will be held in Ann Arbor this w\eekend.
