Easily one of the most brilliant freshman prospects to hit Michi- gan since the war, the flashy half- back passed and ran with veteran coolness to win the hearty approv- al of several thousand spectators, But Hill had plenty of conpetition for the most sensational perform- ances of the day from Roger Zat- koff and Lowell Perry. * * * ZATKOFF"S bruising defensive work as a line-backer showed why he was picked yesterday to receive the Meyer W. Norton Award 'as the most improved player during spring practice. Not only did he do a superb job of breaking up plays, but he also shined on pass defense, intercepting and running back one long throw and knocking down several others. Perry, working an end-around play to perfection, set up the first score of the afternoon on the third play of the game, then concluded the two-hour tussle with a repeat performance for the final touchdown. Fast and glue-fingered, the lithe, 17-year old former teammate of Hill has already been compared authori- tatively with Michigan's great Bob Mann. - Dave Tinkham, an East Grand Rapids freshman tailback, made the longest run of the afternoon, a 55-yard jaunt which set up his own touchdown two plays later. An hour-and-a-quarter elapsed be- tween Hill's third marker and Tinl ham's T.D. * * * BLUE RUNNERS found the White right side particularly vul- nerable. Tom Witherspoon threw a 20-yard toss to letterman Les Popp in this territory and Popp went over unhindered. Wither- spoon capitalized on the weakness a few minutes later and ran his left end for another six-pointer. Two other lettermen figured in the scoring. Wingback Don Pe- terson worked an end run for a tally just before Perry's game- finisher and Dick McWilliams blocked a kick by Jerry Burns after the initial score which went out of bounds for a safety. Burns' kicking was sensational. He averaged over 45 yards on six punts and was perhaps single- handedly responsible for keeping the Blues in check throughout the afternoon. k I TODAY and MONDAY SHOWN AT 1:30 - 4:10 - 6:55 - 9:40 '.4 '''A ,t 4 ' Ai _i NOW AT REGULAR PRICES All Seats 50c Ph.6MR Ph. 5651 There has never bee, a m Of '4 like A ).ARTHUR RANK ESENTATION :nM picture Plus ...
