Myra went through the long years of trouble and expense in an attempt to prove a claim to the will of her father, Daniel Clark. He was a rich and in- fluential southern gentleman living in Louisiana about 1800. Reared in a foster home, Myra first discovered that she might have a claim to her father's estate 20 years after his death. Although she never had the original will in the entire series of cases, several people swore to its existence. IN THE SERIES of cases that followed, several of which went to the Supreme Court, Myra proved her claim to the property. This victory was sweet, but short. Witlh the advent of the Civil War, the South nullified all the deci- sions of the Supreme Court and she was denied the victory. In 1872, Myra won an important case, financially, against the City of New Orleans. The city had built a drainage building on Myra's property. The land had originally cost $200. When Myra proved her point, she drained $125,000 off the city for back rent and interest. Myra fought the case until the time of her death. Strangely enough, a few days after she died, two wills appeared claiming her estate in much the same way as the two former wills of her father's estate. Design Exhibit An exhibit of advertising art is now on display in the East Gal- lery of the Rackham Building and will be continued through March 11. All the designs are the work of Lester Beal, of New York, a lead- ing advertising designer. Attorne y Asks Injunction on VA Hospital At amended bill of complaint asking a court injunction to pre- vent construction of city water and sewer mains to the proposed VA hospital has been filed by Wil- liam A. Lucking, Ann Arbor at-. torney. He charged that the proposed hospital would raise the cost ofI treatment at the city's two pri- vate hospitals. The claim was made that "high- er wages paid by the government for nurses and other employees" would lead to a scarcity of trained hospital personnel, forcing fees up at University and St. Joseph Mer- cy hospitals. Lucking continued with a list- ing of charges, including: 1. That the site, if annexed, would cost Ann Arbor "at least $25,000 annually" for additional fire and police protection, and gen- e,-alservicing of the area; 2. "At least 1,000 employes" will b, needed for the institution, no h using facilities can by provided within the city limits, and none a-e planned by the VA at the pres- eilt time; 3. "The hospital might at any time become a serious fire and health hazard to the surrounding residents and Ann Arbor Town- ship" if Ann Arbor exercised its contractual right to cancel -water and sewage facilities.
