DAILY OFFICIAL BULLETIN 'U' Professor Chosen Head Of Society Ferguson Honored By Electrochemists Dr. Alfred L. Ferguson, profes- sor of chemistry, has recently been elected president of the Elec- trochemical Society. Dr. Ferguson has been on the University faculty since 1915 and has been internationally recog- nized for his work on polarization and over-voltage. * * * IN ADDITION to his position in the Electrochemical Society, he is a member of seven other profes- sional societies and four profes- sional fraternal organizations. Dr. Ferguson has a record of 59 publications to his credit dealing with his field of speciali- zation. He was invited in 1947 to read a paper before the Faraday So- ciety of England during a sym- posium on electrode reactions. Outside of Dr. Ferguson's spe- cialty of electrochemistry, he is particularly interested in rural education and has written many papers on that subject. He is also a member of the Rural School Officers Association. Phi Kappa Phi Initiates_308 Seven faculty members and 301 students were recently initiated into the University of Michigan chapter of Phi Kappa Phi, na- tional scholarship society. Faculty initiates were: Vice- President Marvin L. Niehuss; Dean Russell A. Stevenson, of the School of Business Administration; Dean of Students Erich A. Walter; Er- nest Boyce, professor of municipal and sanitary engineering; Frank- lin L. Everett, associate professor of engineering mechanics; Leo Goldberg, professor of astronomy; and Frank L. Huntley, associate professor of English.
