ti MX' THE MICHIGAN DAILY Glee Club To Give Face Lifting to 'Clementine' Americans have been singing "Oh, My Darlin' Clementine" since the gold rush days, but the Uni- versity Men's Glee Club has de- vised variations on the popular tuns which would amaze even the prospecpors who orignated it. As one of the highlights of the concert, to be given at 8:30 p.m. Saturday at Hill Auditorium, the Glee Club will sing "Clementine" to waltz, jazz, and dirge tempos, and spice the selection with Ger- man and French dialects. WITH A PROGRAM varying from Bach "in one of his lighter moods" to "Slow Boat to China," '-1 inicluding a medley of favorite Michigan songs, 43 male voices will ring out for the group's ninety- first annual concert. Under the direction of Prof. Philip A. Duey, the group has given concerts from Portland, Me. to Portland, Ore. In the last year. This spring, their voices rang out in Wisconsin, Illinois, Iowa, and cities all over Michigan. . * * * PROMINATELY featured at all concerts are the club's three quar- tets: "The Midnight Sons," in- ciudes Roland H. McLaughlin, first tenor; Roger E. DeMeritt, second tenor; Jack A. Jensen, baritone; and Jack Rose, Bass. Virtuosos in "The Key Chang- ers" are: Philip Steding, first tenor; C. Wayne Wright, first ond tenor; and Robert A. Elson, baritone. Singing with "The Novelaries" are: C. Wayne Wright, first tenor; Harold E. Harrington, second tenor; Edward Pfluke, baritone, and Donald Ross, iass. Arthur J. Snook is the accom- panist. "The concert will be free, which means no charge," Philip Morris, president, declared. Collection For Senior Dues Starts The final drive for the collection of senior class dues will be launched tomorrow for students of architecture, forestry, literary and music schools. Dues may be paid through Fri- day at one of the three booths on the Diag, between the chemistry building and the medical building, and at the engineering arch. The two-dollar dues will entitle students to discounts on caps and -mfnl and te Sr-nior B1,1l ticknts. Also included will be an invitation to the Senior picnic to be held the week before graduation. For senior women who have already bought their caps and gowns, dues will be $1.50. Money collected from the dues will be used for the Class of '49 Memorial. Part of it will go to the reunion fund. When paying dues, interested seniors may sign up for the senior cruise, the weekend before gradu- ation. -Daily-Wally Barthe THEATRE-IN-THE-ROUND-Left to right, Lucille Waldorf, James Lynch and Shirley Loeblich rehearse a scene from "The Winslow Boy," to be presented at 8 p.m. today and tomorrow at the Women's Athletic Building. This will be the first production of "arena theatre in Michigan." To preserve the intimate nature of circle theatre there will be a limited audience of 170 persons both nights. DAPHNEPHORIC: Poets, Lilies, Lovesick Maidens Brig 'Patience' to the Stage Deny Bias.. (ContinuOd from Page 1) Negro women who do not re- quest a particular roommate are either assigned single rooms or with other Negro coeds, the Dean's office said. The photograph requested of each applicant is "of great use in helping members of the office recall women whom they might not be able to remember by name alone." S* * * IT HAS ALSO PROVED valu- able in emergency situations, ac- cording to the Dean's Office. The application blank for residence in a League House contains no questions of race or religion but does require that a photograph be submitted. "Application blanks cannot be acted upon unless a picture is on file in the Office of the Dean of Women," according to the form. HOWEVER, although pictures are left off the form many times, such applications are acted upon, the Dean's Office said. In regard to League Houses, the Office of the Dean of Wom- en said that only houses which have agreed not to refuse any applicant because of her race or religion are listed for referrals by the office. Any house which was found to be practicing discrimination would have its approvalsrevoked unless it agreed to desist from further discrimination, the Dean's Office said. (MY OWN investigation dis- closed that only a handful of League Houses will accept Negro women.) . Enthusiastic approval of het- erogeneous League Houses in which women of all races and religions live together was ex- pressed by the Dean's Office. There is one all-Negro house, but its house director has indi- cated willingness to take women of any race or religion. Up to now no white women have applied for admission to the house.
