Johnny Stewart pitched well for the winners, as Adams short- stop Roy Aimone, and Greene catcher George Jackson fought it out at bat. It was give and take as Pres- cott House dropped Tyler House 5-3. The game featured a pitch- ing duel between Bob Anderson of Prescott and Tyler's Roy Eby. Cooley House blanked Fletcher Hall in an easy 10-0 win. Johnny Biery pitched Hayden House to a 6-2 victory over Dick Smith and his Lloyd House crew. The second round will begin next Monday, weather permitting. I-M Initiates Baseball Loop The Intramural Department has inaugurated-I-M baseball this spring with a six team league. Physical Education, Cues, Alpha Sigma Phi, Hinsdale, Puffs and Independents are entered in the league which will continue for seven weeks. Practice games were held this week, and the regular schedule will open next week with Physical Education meeting the Independents, Monday, Cues play- ing Puffs pn Tuesday, and Alpha Sigma Phi opposing Hinsdale on Wednesday. All games will be played on the Freshman field at 6 p.m. LCA Wins In No-Hitter Lambda Chi Alpha and Alpha Tau Omega shared the spotlight this week as the Fraternity soft- ball season got underway. Jerry Wingert tossed the sea- son's first no-hitter as he blar t d Theta 'Delta Chi, 9-0. His fine pitching was augmented by a solid batting attack led by Gary Hicks' and Ben Gates' long home runs. * * * ALPHA TAU OMEGA exploded a 26-1 victory over Kappa Nu. Pitching, batting and fielding all excelled. In other games, Chi Phi downed Delta Tau Delta, 11-5, Chi Psi nipped Trigon, 5-4, and Zeta Beta Tau took the measure of Delta Chi, 5-3. Delta Upsilon blasted Delta Sig- ma Phi, 20-1, Sigma Alpha Mu edged by Kappa Sigma, 10-9 and Alpha Sigma Phi vanquished Phi Gamma Delta, 7-1. * * * PHI KAPPA PSI was the victor over Psi Upsilon, 8-5, Sigma Alpha Epsilon slid by Omega Pi Psi,, 4-3, and Sigma Phi took Tau Delta Phi into camp by a 10-8 score. Phi Sigma Kappa ripped Alpha Delta Phi, 14-4, Beta Theta Pi squeaked by Delta Kappa Epsilon, 3-2, and Phi Sigma Delta dropped a decision to Sigma Nu, 10-4. Independents egin Season With 3 Tilts By hERB NEIL Nakamura Coop, the Ramblers, and Newman Club scored victories in the opening games of the In- dependent softball league Wed- nesday afternoon at Ferry Field. Nakamura Coop defeated the Rookies 10-5 with an eight run second inning. Behind, 3-2, at the end of the top half of the second inning the winners scored their eight runs largely with the help of the wildness of Bob Ata- man, the Rookies' itcher. The Ramblers beat Michigan Coop, 9-7, with three runs in the fourth inning. The winners came from behind twice to gain the victory, once in the third with four tallies to gain a 6-3 lead and again in the fourth after Michi- gan Coop had scored four times in the top half of the inning. A homer by Bob Harper, four doub- les and a walk highlighted the Ramblers' big third inning. Chuck Prue pitched Newman Club to a 5-2 victory over the Foul Balls. The victors netted all five runs in the third inning 'on a double, three singles and three walks. RifleShowI An all-city rifle tournament will be held Saturday from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the Michigan ROTC range to determine Ann Arbor's most accurate sharpshooter. Each entrant will fire in five matches. Students as well as permanent Ann Arbor residents may enter the tourney by appearing at the range Saturday morning. Four schools willclash in Ann Arbor Saturday afternoon, April 23, in the first intercollegiate weightlifting meet ever to be held in the mid-west. Competing for top honors will be Michigan, Michigan State, the University of Chicago, and Kent State University.
