TH~ Mi1CfIC A N _DAILY_ _ _ __ _ _ _ __ _ _ _ _ Duties of Committee Chairman For Soph Cabaret Announced Few people, other than the gen- eral chairman and central com- mittee chairmen, realize all that goes into the makeup of a Soph- omore Cabaret. Central committee members who will be chosen from freshmen handing in petitions March 11 are the programs chairman, publicity chairman, refreshments chair- man, tickets chairman and her as- sistant and the special booths chairman. The programs chairman should be qualified to make up both the cover and inside portions of the programs, arrange for the print- ing and seeing that ushers have sufficient copies. Coeds petitioning for this position need not be in art school, but would be wise to check up on prices beforehand. With two assistants and mem- bers of her committee, the dec- orations chairman will plan and Wire Archery Meet Nears End Women archers are entering the final week in the Intercollegiate Telegraphic Meet this week, giv- ing coeds their last opportunity to compete this term. Shooting is , done from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday and Friday and from 10 to 12 noon on Saturday at the WAB. Women participants need only go and shoot in the WAB and hand their scorecards in to the matron. Entry requirements and rules for the tournament are posted on the bulletin boards of Barbour Gym and the WAB this week. Anyone wishing further informa- tion on the meet may call Bev- erly Hawes, 2-5579. Club participation among wom- en enthusiasts will begin again within a few weeks. construct the whole decorative theme of the second floor con- course of the League. S'rtJIENTS in architecture and design could tie this in with their academic interests and would be able to submit to the interviewing committee samples of their work, ideas and sketches on paper. All that the name implies will be the duty of the hostess chair- man who will be in charge of providing hostesses for both nights of Sophomore Cabaret and helping to arrange mixers. The publicity chairman with her two assistants will organize the entire campaign for Soph Cab publicity and recruit members. One assistant, preferably an art school student, will be in charge of posters, while the other assist- ant will be in charge of skits and like stunts. SAMPLES CAN be submitted of the work of persons petitioning for publicity positions. Original ideas on publicity are always welcomed and it is essential that members of this committee be familiar with the campus regulations on pub- licity. It is also advantageous for petitioners to be on the publica- tions staff or to have some close contact. The refreshments chairman will take care of planning, or- dering, selling and getting host- esses to serve the refreshments. THE TICKETS CHAIRMAN and her assistants will have printed and distribute the tickets and plan the selling campaign with the publicity chairman. The interviewing committee will be interested in knowing the plans of these women for distributing the tickets, keeping track of the money and time and schodules of people who sell. Miscellaneous functions on the concourse will be attributed to the special booths chairman who will be free to have whatever booths she wants. Original ideas, old and new, and ideas on how to carry out plans will be looked for in this inter- view as well as other office-seek- ers. Weekend Plans To Be Made By Freshmen There will be a mass meeting for all freshmen at 4:30 p.m. Thursday in the League Ballroom when plans will be discussed for Frosh Weekend. Frosh Weekend will be held April 29 and 30 and May 1 rather than April 28, 29, and 30 as was previously announced. THE PURPOSE of the project, which may become a new campus tradition if successful, is to ac- quaint freshmen with League functions and enjoy a weekend of entertainment at the same time. Information concerning peti- tioning and interviewing will be presented at the mass meeting Thursday and Assembly and Panhellenic Boards will give a skit on the process of inter- viewing. Miss Ethel A. McCor- mick, Social Director of Women, will also address the group. ! All freshmen, independent and affiliated, will be welcome to takel part in Frosh Weekend events whichewill include two dances to be held Friday and Saturday, April 29 and 30 in the League and a take-off on a style show which will be presented Sunday, May 1. STORMY WEATHER RainTogs Pr By BARBARA MOLYNEAUX Regardless of a few lingrin snow flakes sprinkled over the campus, Mother Nature is going to plunge Ann Arbor into its usual rainy spring any day o so coeds, be prepared. The biggest sensation of the season is that someone has seen fit to make raincoats more reas- onable. They are not only five to six dollars cheaper, but are made with the kind of needlework and detail that lends itself to longer serviceability. * * * IN REPLY to the question, "Have raincoat fabrics really im- proved this season?" an adver- tising manager of a local cloth- ing store had this to say. "These coats are so waterproof, that you can go swimming in them and still come out dry, except for the holes where your feet and head tick out." This same man when inter- viewed confided that the supply of rubbers and boots is extreme- ly large because the store has been catering to customers that ride in cars. Consequently, the coeds on cam- pus have been slushing through puddles in unprotected shoes which leads to wet feet and colds and finally an eventual crowding of health service. The oversupply of food wear should be taken ad- vantage of immediately. IJEAD PROTECTION is of a stylish variety this season. One popular item is a triangle head scarf which is colorful, inexpen- sive and, of course, waterproof. It can be purchased separate from other rain gear for the many days ahead that are just "dewy" and require a shield for curly hair. To fight the days of real rain storms, it is advisable to own your own umbrella and these are avaIlable both for style seekers and those that just need an umbrella. The latter group of buyers will probably be most interested in the I brightly colored, short plastic handled umbrellas which have al- ways been popular. Many of them romise Proper Protection Daily--Ohlinger JUNIORS IN ACTION-Virginia Campbell, chairman of JGP, maks a helpful suggestion to Kitty Campbell (left) and Eleanor Littlefield ( right) as they work on a poster to publicize the tradi- tional musical comedy produced annually by the junior women. Stoles Offer Countless Ways To Vary Women's Wardrobes are of the folding type and there- fore not a bother to handle in the classroom. * * * THE STYLISH umbrellas are those tall, tall things that have been pictured in the fashion mag- azines supporting those tall, tall models. These are being carried by many women on the sunniest of days either for a weapon or just for dressing as the young women of fashion ought to dress. Getting back to the most im- portant part of your rain togs, the coat, it is interesting to note that the style is a comfortable, yet pleasingly different one. A new addition to the coat is a detachable cape which falls over the shoulders and hangs to about the middle of the back, Belts on many of the coats can be worn inside or out so that the entire waist is fitted or the belt can be slipped beneath the coat in back so that from the front the coat looks fitted and yet the wear- er has the freedom and style of a full back. "' * * COLORS ARE decidedly bright from head to toe. Rubbers can be purchased in a hue that matches JGP NOTES Make-up committee will meet from 5 to 6 p.m. today in Suites 1 and 2 in the League. Chorus members will rehearse today according to the following schedule. 5 to 6 p.m. Group 1 in the Gar- den Room. 5 to 6 p.m. Specialty III in the Kalamazoo Room. The most popular coat is satin finished and many have taken a liking to the rain hats or "mad caps" that come as a matching accessory with the coat. The transparent plastic rain coat has been termed an "emer- gency item," but should be con- sidered as one of the most prac- tical kinds of raincoat available. They are displayed in local store windows when a surprise rain hits Ann Arbor and sell very quickly. It has been found that buyers usually term them a good looking protection over their heavier coats when it is cold and rainy outdoors and still they are light enough so as not to be cumbersome when it gets to be warm and rainy.
