Conservation have been studying and conducting researcht in the Wood Utilization L ate, located be- hind Victor Vaughan. According to Prof. William Kynoch of the Forestry School, it is "one- of the best-equipped labs of its kind in the country." THE LAB WAS selected by the National Association of Furniture Manufacturers as the principal center for training men to func- tion in technical capacities in furniture industries, said Prof. Kynoch. "Wood technologists are in continuous and steadily inc~reas- ing demand by industry," hie continued. Many persons do not realize that Forestry and Wood Tech- nology are two distinct fields in the School of Forestry and Con- servation, Prof. -Kynoch said. THEY HAVEflIFFERENT cur- ricula and lead to different de- grees--Forestry deals with timber production and Wood 'Technology applies science to the industrial utilization of wood, he added. The modern equipment of the lab is used for work on micro- scopic structure of wood, me- chanical and physical property of wood, and conditioning of wood. Instruction is also given in pressure impregnation of wood with processing fluids, bonding of wood and plywood with adhesiveI and machinery of wood. Precision instruments are used for measure- ment. RESEARCH FOR furniture in- dustries is conducted and under the auspices of the Engineering Research Institute, the lab is also used for research purposes. The Research Institute, in turn, ad- vises the Wood Technology de- partmen-t on such problems as estimated cost and building from wood materials. The latest addition to the labor- atory facilities are three constant temperature and humidity rooms. .1 i 14 persons who pleaded guilty Feb. 14 in c~onnct ion with the nu1lliibs 5racketraEi in "Willow Village. .A tenth, Ar-thur Rigsby, who pleaded guilty, will he sentenced' at it later date, and trial dlate for Richard McCarter who stood mute) and pleaded not, guilty, was set, for March IT7 THlE ANN ARBOR system of wsins; revenue from parking me-, ters , to provide off-street parking lots. was upheld yesterday by the Michigan Supreme Court in a Lest case involving the 'Village of Wayne.
