THE MICHIGAN DAILY THURSDAY, JANUARY 13, 1919 Now _... OLLEGE ROUNDUP: NS A Group Marches on Discriminatin I -- -- - . - - (EDITOR'S NOTE: This is the sec- ond in a series of College Roundups on nation-wide campus organiza- tions.) By CRAIG WILSON Christmas vacation found the National Student Association (NSA) . meeting in a Regional Convention in Pennsylvania and moving to combat discriminatory practices in Quaker state schools. They objected to "gentlemen's agreements," which they said pre- vented Negro students from teaching. NSA amateur sleuths will attempt to dig out and ex- pose any such practices wher- ever they are found, according to the Penn State Collegian. :& * MEANWHILE, on campuses all over the United States, NSA groups continued to make them-! selves useful to students. Att the University of Cali- fornia an NSA Foreign Travel sub-commission will make res- ervations and give trip tips to students bound for Europe, ac- cording to the Daily Califor- nian. The group is also sponsoring six bull-sessions with hopeful travelers in order to explain some typical problems students abroad have faced in the past. DISPLACE) PERSONS will be sent to American colleges and uni- versities next fall with the aid of NSA, according to the University of Washington News. COOPERATING with Presi- dent Truman's commoission for administration of Public Law 774 which defines the eligibility requirements for the entry of DP's into the U.S., NSA will find housing, part time jobs, scholarships and tuition waivers for the new arrivals. The work is a part of NSA's overall objective of establishing a working reciprocal agreement with foreign universities for ex- change of educational and travel programs in the interest of re- storing hope, health and oppor- tunity in the educational commu-i nity, according to NSA members in Washington. NSA'S SUBCOMMISSION at Harvard is in charge of the pro- nram and will direct the activities of the more than 265 NSA groups .n the nation. Already 10,000 applications have been received. Meanwhile, as NSA worked for others, others appeared to be working against the organization. IN THE SOUTH, NSA has been charged with being "Communist" )ecause it has opposed racial dis- crimination, the Daily Texan, at "he University of Texas reported. The recent refusal of Texas Christian University to allow formation of an NSA chapter was blamed on "pressures from outside sources," by a national NSA official speaking on the UT campus. e Oontinuous Daily From 1 P.M. gar Y VI Weekdays 35c to 5 P.M.
