By LILIAS WAGNER Advertisements, characters, vegetables and buildings turned; the "Masquerade of the Heads" into the weirdest dance of ther year.- The semi-formal was different from the moment dancers trouped into the UnionaBallroom wearing wild masques and fantastic deco- rations, and the atmosphere pre- vailed until weary dancers pickedj up their headgear and dragged home. The minor vices were there, too. A pair of huge dice completely ob- scured the heads of their wearers, while a large beer mug and her date, covered by an even larger beer barrel, might have provided refreshment. An advertising angle was pro- vided by two couples who wonder- ed which had the Toni. Musicians7 came as a treble and bass clef, while a viola stood upright on one party-goer's head. Only problem with the masquesi State National Guard Kamp Site at Grayling LANSING-(R')-The 1949 en-9 campment of the Michigan Na- tional Guard will be held at Camp Grayling, Major General Ralph1 A. Loveland, commanding general, announced today. Plans are being made for some expansion of the facilities at the was their weight. Many dancers found that "heavy heavy hangs over thy head" was a little too un- comfortable, and removed the masques even before the floorshow necessitated it. IR. AND MRS. Charles Bas- set's huge eye shared first prize with John Weyl and Marilyn Chandler, who appeared with a flower pot and a large abstract house. Biblical soothsayer Jonah rested on a raft atop Lilias Wagner's head, while Bill Wells wore the whale. They shared honorable mention with Mr. and Mrs. Bruce McCarty's elab- orate butterfly and caterpillar. Electronically-minded party- goers implanted eyes in their fore- heads which flashed on and off. Perhaps attempting to shield their eyes were two lampshades. TWO RABBITS, two whimsical lambs and a horse pranced on the dancefloor. A white-wigged papier -mache faced dame of yesterday wore a perpetual smile for her moustached date. They joined several swarthy characters in mystifying everyone regarding their identity. Several vegetables also at- tended the party. Saint 99 and 44-100's per cent Pure was ac- companied by Sinner Duzz Eve- thing, and two "knit-wise" wore yarn and needles as exterior brains.
