Greek Letter Swi-mmers Vie in Final S The battle of the fraternity dual swimming contest is ap- proaching its climax as the semi- final contestants ready themselves for the struggle that will end in glory for some and sore muscles for others. The hard - swimming Sigma Alpha Epsilon's upset Phi Delta Theta (36-30). The Phi Delts were last year's champions and proved themselves to be no easy push- over. However, the well balanced team of the S.A.E.'s went all out to chalk up a victory over their powerful rivals. The Theta Chis will clash with the S.A.E.'s next week for a crack Coed sports activities will be held from 7:30 to 10:30 Friday in the IM Building. Theta Chi chalked up a 39-27 win over Zeta Psi and Beta Theta Pi went down in defeat before the Sig Chis (40-25). SAE Dro sri By CLARKE STEVENSON The white ball and high net still dominate the I-M gym floor today but the increasing patter of dribblinghbasketballs can be heard more plainly now as the volleyball playoffs get underway. Fraternity volleyball will go into the semi-final stages next week. The defending champions of last year aren't even in the picture this season, leaving a wide open field. THERE ARE ONLY four teams remaining out of the original eight first place contestants who now have hopes of capturing championship honors and the, hundred points. Lambda Chi Alpha defeated Sigma Chi (2-0) and will clash with Delta Upsilon who)downed Sigma Phi Epsilon (2-0) for a final playoff position. Beta Theta Pi eliminated Sigma Drm Swim Race Enters Stretch Drive Swimmers in the residence hall swimming tournament stroked their way into the Quarter-Finals Tuesday night at the Intramural Building with the completion of six meets. The tourney is con- ducted on a one defeat and out basis. In Tuesday's competition, Wen- ley House trounced Greene House, 49-17, Chicago House shaded Strauss House, 34-32, Fletcher Hall nipped Hayden House, 36-30. PRESCOTT House trimmed Hinsdale House, 42-24, Williams House walloped Tyler House, 40- 26, and Winchell House defeated Anderson House via the forfeit rout. Residence Hall water polo rolled into the second week of play, Tues- day night at the Intramural Build- ing, with one match and a forfeit recorded. In the lone action, Wenley House edged Greene House, 3-2, in a hard-fought game. Prescott House won by forfeit over Fletcher Hall in the second scheduled event. In Residence Halls Waterpolo contests played last night, Tyler nipped Cooley, 2-1, Wenley dropped Strauss, 2-1, Williams narrowly beat Allen-Rumsey, 3-2, Prescott blanked Chicago, 1-0, Winchell took the measure of Adams, 2-0. Lloyd nosed out Mich- igan, 2-1, and Hinsdale shutout Hayden, 2-0. LambdaYPi Nu, 2-0 and will take on Sigma Alpha Epsilon who squelched Pi Lambda. Phi's hopes 2-0. This play-off will produce the other first place contender. THE BATTLEFIELD of the sec- ond place contests is where last year's champions met their death at the hands of the Alpha Sigma Phis in a 2-1 struggle. The Alpha Sigs will come up against the Theta Chis who put Acacia out of action, 2-0. Phi Delta Theta bowed to Phi Kappa Psi (2-0) who will in turn encounter Alpha Sigma Phi who trod down Phi Kappa Tau, 2-0. Struggling for third place hon- ors Kappa Sigma wrestled a 2-1 victory from Phi Gamma Delta and will have to battle against Ph: Kappa Sigma for a playoff posi- tion. Theta Delta was defeated 2- 0 by Phi Kappa Sigma. rim-Finals Fraternity Teams Vie In Handball While the volleyball teams have been romping noisily back and forth across the gym floor, hand- ball, a little known but important sport has been quitely progress- ing underneath the gym floor. TAU DELTA PHI moved into the semi-final slot last night when they defeated Psi Upsilon by a 2-1 score. This was the only semi- final game played this week. Preparing to battle it out for the other positions, Sigma Alpha Mu will meet Phi Sigma Delta. Sigma Phi will engage Beta Theta Pi for a similar position. Kappa Sigma and Sigma Phi EpAilon will also have their eyes on the championship when they clash next week.
