THE MIC IGAN DAILY WALLOW, NOT HOLLOW, WIN. Mud Lends Humor to Final Midget Game { ...rrr. UI A last look at the lightweights before King Football abdicates for another year: Playing conditions for Friday's game with Ohio State were -out of this world ... the game was played on the varsity practice field and the only grass in evidence was along the sidelines . . . . to make matters worse a heavy rain fell during the second half . . . . the sun was out fifteen minutes after the game ended. * * * PLAYERS. WERE unrecogniza- ble by halftime which opened the Bulldogs Tangle with Falcons For Community House Funds By SY SONKIN The "kids" of Ann Arbor will be the beneficiaries of the Wines Field encounter between the Ann Arbor Bulldogs and the Flint Fal- cons at 10:30 Thursday morning. BOTH SQUADS are members of the Michigan Amateur Foot- ball League. Forrest Evashevski, one of the Wolverines' great quar- terbacks and a teammate of Tom Harmon, is commissioner of the. circuit. All the money taken in at the game will be turned over to a fund for an Ann Arbor Community House, and, more specifically, a swimming pool for the town. Ann Arbor has none at present. NEITHER TEAM has won a game in five starts in this rough league, and, since this is the final contest for both, this will ob- viously be a fight to stay out of the cellar, and the game should 'be well worth the admission of one dollar for adults and fifty cents for children. Wolverine swimming coach Matt Mann has put himself on the rec- ord as squarely behind the proj- ect. "We need a community house in this town so badly," he said. "The kids have no place to go. * * * 'YOU UNIVERSITY students have your fraternity houses and your Union, but they have noth- ing. About the only thing they can do is to go to a beer parlor or a pool hall, and we don't want that, de we?" So you students that don't have much to do come Thanksgiving morning, go down to Wines Field. Plunk down your buck, and enjoy yourself at what promises to be a pretty good football game - and give the boys and girls in this town a break at the same time. mill 7 THIS IS IT! The Shoe you've been asking for! "hTe way for plenty of laughs . . . . an Ohio halfback started to cut be- hind his interference and dis- covered too late that the "inter- ference" was from Michigan ... Wolverine quarterback Jemr r y Burns tossed a perfect pass to a surprised Buckeye who was im- mediately swarmed upon by both teams . . . . Burns pulled the best crack of the day when substitute quarterback George Sipp asked him how he was receiving the muddy ball from center . Burns' answer was to the point . I'm not." Dubious honor of being the muddiest player on the field went to guard Jere Ogle ... he was closely pressed by tackle Barry Breakey but a white spot was discovered under Breakey's left eye .....Capt. Don O'Con- nell got his shower early ... . his teammates tossed him in the showers uniform and all in celebration of another tie for the lightweight championship S. .. the mud-caked O'Connell didn't object too strenuously. Only four members of this year's squad will be lost by graduation SPORTS DICK HURST, Night Editor .. Breakey and end Jim Costa are the only starters to go . . . UNLESS THERE is a sudden change of heart in the front of- fices the lightweights will receive the same awards they got last sea- son . . . . that means a plain blue sweater with a yellow stripe on the left sleeve and a 50 -over the stripe . . . . seems kind of silly .... the least they can do is give the midgets a 150 over the stripe. Lightweight football is in a precarious position at Ohio State . . . . the Buckeyes are losing their coach and are hesitant about °hiring another . . . . they haven't had much in the way of material either .... Athletic Di- rector Dick Larkins isn't say- ing anything right now . . . . The Western Conference brand of lightweight football gained pres- tige last Saturday when Illinois met Navy . . . . the middies won 13-6 but the easterners were thought to be far superior ... 150-pound football has been well established in that section for sev- eral years. Letter Men Men honored on the 150 pound team were: James Armelogos, Da- vid Bradbury, Barry Breakey, Ger- ald Briskin, Jerry M. Burns, Wil- liam Clark, James Coleman, James P. Costs, Antone Cybulski, Stan- ley Emerling, Eugene Freed, James Johnson, Theodore Karmazin, Robert Kash, Gene Kiddon, Ev- erett Knapp, Vaughn H. Loether, Ross Marshall, Edwin Morey, Frank Murphy, Donald O'Connell (Captain), Jere Ogle, John Picard, Prentice Ryan, James Sakai, Law- rence Shaw, George Sipp, Gordon Smith, Frank Whitehouse, and John Wilcox. 4 1 Ilalfi , . . - i; ', . 4 e q = . ± ,:. i N~pffPLE...WT Pp; f " ..e WE GIVE THANKS TO GOD.. 0 0 CLASSIC" and only 4 FOR PROVIDING US WITH OUR BASIC WANTS DURING THE PAST YEAR.
