MICHIGAN PIONEERS: Local Students' Debate To Be Televised Monday I .14 DAILY OFFICIAL BULLETIN A pioneer broadcast in the field of television will be originated at 9:30 p.m. Monday night over WXYZ-TV by the Department of Speech and the Michigan High School Forensic League. Literary Critic SpeaksToday "Post-War Reconstruction in English Letters" will be the topic of J. E. Morpurgo, when he speaks at 4:15 p.m. today in Rackham Amphitheatre. The English literary critic will essays on modern English and light of the new attitude toward literature and art. Morpurgo has written numerous essglys in modern English and American works and is a critic of the London Times Literary Sup- plement. THE FIRST TIME such a pro- gram has ever been televised in this area, therdebaters will argue the question, "Resolved That the United Nations Should Be Con- verted to a Federal World Gov- ernment Now." Speaking for the affirmative will be Nafe Katter and Irwin Robinson, while Frank Nelson and Don Neuchterlein will take the negative. All four have had previous varsity debating ex- perience under Edward Miller of the Speech Department. Introducing the program will be Dale Stafford, managing edi- tor of the Detroit Free Press. Dr. Rupert Cortright,. chairman of the Speech Department at Wayne University and president of the Speech Associationrof America will act as moderator. * * * THE MICHIGAN style of cross- questioning debate will be used. The program is designed to give high school students all over the state an idea of what collegiate debating is like. Lat- er in the week debate teams all over the state will begin arguing the same question. HANDLING the technical as- pects of the show in cooperation with WXYZ-TV will be Prof. Garnet Garrison and John Rich of the Radio Division of the Speech Department. Her sister, Faith, gives her sister a drink of milk at their home at Pomeroy, Pa. Edward Hickey, the father, has appealed to the Pennsylvania State Medical Society to suggest "any scientific means" that might prolong Faith's life. Gilbert Bazil, president of An- derson House, accepted the plaque, which bears the inscription "Dedi- cated to Henry Clay Anderson, first chairman of the Board of Governors of Residence Halls," from Ray A. Okonski, president of the West Quad Council. The plaque was originally given to West Quad which presented it to Anderson House because it had been named after the late Mr. Anderson. Cooley House received a replica of a plaque in the sociology de- partment which is dedicated to Charles Horton Cooley. The plaque, a gift of 'the soci- ology department and the Office of the Dean of Students, was' presented by Dr. Arthur Wood of the sociology department to James Van Veen, president of Cooley House.
