Johnson (D) Representatives: 21 D; Patman, Combs, Beckworth, Rayburn, Wil- son, Teague, Pickett, Thomas, Thompson, Thornberry, Poage, Lucas, Gossett, Lyle, Bensten, Re- The most important fact which the commercial poll takers failed to consider when they predicted an overwhelming victory for Gov- ernor Thomas E.£ Dewey was that the Democrats turned out in full force on Election day, while many Republicans stayed home. According to Dr. Angus Camp- bell, assistant director of the Sur- vey Research Center, surveys such as the Gallup poll fail to give a correct prediction of the number of voters from each party. * * * EVERY POLL had given Dewey a large lead over Truman, and some polls even went as far Smith, Davis, Withrow, Zablocki, Biemiller, Keefe, Murray, Byres, Hull, O'Konski. WYOMING: Senator: Lester C. Hunt (R) Representatives: 1 R; Barrett. Whitten, Whittington, Abernethy, Winstead, Colmer, Williams. MISSOURI: Governor: Forrest Smith, (D) Representatives: 12 D, 1 R; Ma- gee, Moulder, Welch, Irving, Boll- ing, Christopher, Short, Carna- han, Cannon, Jones, Sullivan, Karst, Karsten MONTANA: Governor: John W. (D) Bonner,I as to refer to the New York Gov- ernor as "President Dewey." The sampling methods used by the commercial poll takers also tended to slant the results of the polls, Dr. Campbell said. The quota system of sampling permits the introduction of bias, towards the higher and middle in- come groups, and tends to under report on persons in the lower in- come groups, he said. * * * DR. CAMPBELL suggested that, a random method, which tends to rule out bias, be substituted for the present sampling methods. He asserted that a random selection, while more expensive, would be more accurate. Five dollars A '48 bargain Get yours now And buy at margin ENSIAN. Senator: James (D-X) Representatives: doubt.
