The Carnation Milk Company (Continued on Page 4)" By IVAN KELLEY Michigan's only representative in this year's edition of the famed Boston Marathon is almost back to normal. The Marathon, which was held Monday, April 19, is a grueling 26 mile race over hilly Massachusetts roads. Garth Kirkindall, '50, lone Michigan entrant, managed to stay with the leaders of the pack for the first 15 miles., At that point his right leg, which had been injured in practice with the var- sity track squad, forced him to slow down. Kirkindall kept jogging for an additional seven miles before he dropped out to be picked up by an official car. Only about 50 per cent of the 193 starters finished the race. In an interview yesterday, Kirk- Fraternity Official Russell Stillwell, travelling sec- retary of Delta Sigma Phi frater- nity will be in residence at the Un- ion for the next week. Alumni and transfer students who are members of the fraternity are urged to contact him there. indall said that the most impres- sive feature of the event was the tremendous crowd of five hun- dred thousand spectators who lined the route from start to fin- ish. The most pleasant interlude during the race, he said, was fur- nished by the student body of Wellesley Women's College. It seems that the road upon which the race was run winds past the college, and the girls turned out in force to cheer the panting con- testants on. Although Kirkindall didn't come close to winning the diamond- studded plaque given to first place winner Cote of Canada, and didn't get a. bid for the Olympic team as did the highest placing U. S. en- trant, he declares that he is not discouraged and intends to enter the race again. Once-in-a-Lifetime Opportunity! STUDY - TRAVEL IN SPAIN 68-Day Tour - $798 All Expenses via S.S.
