PARTS NIGHT LIFE EXPOSED-"Folies Rergere" a la Martha Cook will be one of th- high-lights of the Michigras show booths. Above, Joan Riddell (left), Annette Munn (right) and "Folies" posters help Marcia Ames (center) hold up two bubbles, which will .in turn assist Marcia in her "Bergere" dance today and tomorrow. Joan and Annette will take part in a can-can routine, one of the specialties in Martha Cook's version of the famous Parisian review. DAFFY DIPLOMAS-Here's your chance to grasp that elusive sheepskin minus all the travail of graduation. Fletcher Hall will issue diplomas at their booth, "Graduation Daze." The booth is an accurate if slightly attenuated version of Angell Hall, with a combination angel-coed brooding over the columns. Fletcher Hall took first prize a t last year's Michigras with their "Marryin' Sam" booth, and will try to turn the trick again. Pic tured with their glamorous "guardian angel" are Irwin Zuehlke, Barry McCabe, Arthur Przbylow ez, and Bill Richards. HERE COME THE CLOWNS! Gala Carnival Spirit Invades Campus All set to out-Barnum Bailey, MICHIGRAS will take over can- pus this weekend. With all the spangles and glitter of the 19th century showman, plus some streamlined improvements that even the fabulous Barnum couldn't have dreamed up, the big carnival will burst into life with a parade at 4:30 p.m. today. Prancing Parade Clowns? Sure! Crowds? Of course! Elephants? We're afraid not. The City Council was afraid of what they might do to the pavement. But enterprising showmen will still make Barnum look like a piker with elaborate, float Schemes. The calliope, traditional since circus parades came into exist- ence, will share star billing with a strictly modern ROTC "duck." Tom Thumb in reverse will be on hand in the person of stilt-walker Joe Dean. Then, at 7:30 p.m., the flaps ofI the "big tent" will part and the spotlight will shift to Yost Field House. There throngs of students will escape mid-semester dol- drums in a kaleidoscopic whirl of booths, carnival rides, and acro- batic acts. Food and More Fun All this activity requires energy, and energy means food. In be- tween cokes, spun candy and pop- corn, Michigras-goers will munch hot dogs and ice-cream cones. Saturday night will see a repeat performance again commencing at 7:30 and lasting until midnight. Capping the weekend's festivities, prizes and trophies will be award- ed for outstanding booths and pa- rade floats. Then, when all Ann Arbor is sleeping, Michigras will put away its finery, circus-like, and leave campus until it again makes a tri- umphant entrance in 1950. One of the first stones to be used as a decoration was the car- nelian, according to the World Book Encyclopema. ROCKET TO THE MOON-Theta Xi and Pi Phi will shoot off a rocket aimed at the moon at 12:57 today on the Diag. When the rocket returns to earth it will be featured in the Michigras parade. And later you'll be able to enter it and explore its wonders at Yost Field House. From the vantage point of the year 2,048, Theta Xis and Pi Phis will present "Amazed and Blue," skits depicting what college life was like way back in 1948. That's Bill Adam in the bomb, Shelda Ryburn holding the rockets, and Jim Karras in the helmet. . 3 F 1 t l The LINCOLN*... is a rugged, Man's Ring A heavy ring of sturdy strength and beauty 10K GOLD... .$25.50 STERLING.. .$13.25 Add 20% Fed. They're hoping everyone will "catch" one of their painted fish on the booth's backdrop--for attached to the fish is a balloon. And everyone who can bait a fish by pricking one of the rubber spheres with a dart gets a choice Michigras prize. Peg Rathke, Barb Ridgway, Jeri Mulson and Rusty Carlson are shown getting ready for their first customers tonight. MICHIGRAS CO-ChAIRMEN-Keith Jordan and Rae Keller, showmen extraordinaire, are responsible for all the behind-the- scenes work that will make the presentation of Michigras possible. General organizers and committee co-ordinators, the two co-chairmen have promised that the 1948 Michigras will be "the biggest and best ever." FOR AN E AND CASE j ATOMIC SEDAN CHAIR-Phi Gamma Delta will sport three of these "radioactive Fiji taxis" in the Michigras parade today, preliminary to the opening of the fraternity's "Atom Smasher" booth. Above, Al Jackson holds the "A-Bomb," while Andy Pringle reclines in the "taxi," and Bob Spiegel, Phil Henderson, Dave Thomas and Boll K netch help Pringle defy gravity. "Ring the bell and smash our atom," they say, promising Mich igan strong men a genuine Bikini test of their muscle power at the Phi Gam booth. SPECIAL!
