Can.ia and varsity diver Tommy O'Neil put on an exhibition be- fore the fraternity swimming finals. 4 UPS AND OVER-Fred Otto tried to pump in a desperate one- handed shot as he streaked around a Phi Kappa Psi guard -in the closing minutes of the Intramural fraternity basketball cham- pionship. The attempt was no good. Lambda Chi Alpha lost control of the ball and eventually the game to the Phi Psi's, 29-26. The fraternity tussle was sandwiched in between the inde- pendent and residence halls title tilts, giving the Open House spectators over three solid hours of basketball entertainment. ai/q Ictwoe T'af e DAILY PHOTOS BY BILL WISE EDITED BY BEV BUSSEY AND BOB LENT TAKING IT ON THE CHEEK--Larry Hetrick knows how to take punches as well as dish them out, as Mark Abend lands one in the first round of their match. The 1"75 pound contest had to go the entire three rounds before Hetrick, from Sigma Chi, was awarded the decision over SAM pugilist, Abend, in the Intramural All-Campus boxing tournament at the Open House. RACQUET RETURNEhI-Jack Hersh proved to the tennis en- thusiasts that he hasn't lost any T of his court "moxie" since he held down the No. 1 position on the 1946 Varsity squad. Teaming with Captain Bill Mikulich, Hersh volleyed several sets against last Spring's top seeded net stars, Andy Paton and Fred Otto, in an exhibition at the Open House and as a preliminary warm-up to some rough competition on the south- ern road trip. With Paton firmly entrenched in Hersh's old number one posi- tion, the ex-sailor will be dog- ging Mikulich and Otto for the number two post. He rated ahead of Mikulich before he left for service and his presence should boost Michigan's tennis hopes for the coming campaign. DIAMOND RETURNEE - Bob Chappuis who played in the Wolverine outfield in 1945 and held down the catcher's position on the 1944 Michigan baseball squad will be back in uniform this season after being forced out of last year's play with a sprained wrist.
